First Egg Countdown

So, this thread has been kind of slow, so I decided to post my first Ooops egg. Here it is besides her normal regular egg. It was so cute, but hopefully, she will be back to normal tomorrow.

my wait is over! Today at 18 weeks 2 days I got my first egg!!! So happy. For those of you that want to know how do you know they are about to lay, I could tell something special was about to happen. When I woke up and looked out at 6:45 am she was pacing back and forth in the enclosed run so I let the other girls out and she didn't go out so I closed her in. Then she was making a very annoyed kind of screetchy bokking like egg song? Then she jumped in and out of all 3 nests over and over for about 15 minutes looking like she was going to explode and then she started jumping up on anything she could roost on and looked like she was climbing the walls! Then she went into the coop and didn't come out for a half hour and so I went to check on her and saw her in the nest box with her tail up in the corner and knew she had assumed the position. I left her alone and 20 minutes later she came out so I went to put her in the run and then checked the box and there it was! So, then she got some special treats

There's my story of egg-mas morning, lol.

Also, her comb and whole face was bright red like I've never seen before.

Congrats and thanks for the info. Mine are not laying yet, they are 20 wks now but I dont think its going to be too long now..

I spotted my Welsummer in the nest box yesterday. She sat in there for about 25 minutes. No egg, but it won't be long!

Also- My EE's eggs are now normal/large size after about 3 weeks of laying tiny pullet eggs. What I think is her latest egg was a double yolker. The next egg of the same color (laid the following day) was pullet- sized. Would she go back to laying pullet sized eggs or do I have another EE laying?

I have 2 RIR and 2 BR that are about 17 weeks old. I uncovered the nest boxes last weekend (early on they had been roosting in them and making a mess). One BR (Henny Penny) has got a bigger, redder comb than my others. I'm betting she'll be the first but who knows.

Here are the two BR Henny Penny and Sally Ride. These photos were taken ~2 weeks ago.

The two RIR still look baby-ish to me.
Here is Bruce Lee

And here is Amelia Bedelia

So close off-grid-hen!

ncastell............welcome! You still have a few more weeks or so - they have to get much redder in the comb. When the area around their eyes turns super red, you know they are really close!

Look what I found in the nest box after work?! specifically the center egg! Between the golden comet eggs, which I thought were pretty dark. :D

Also-ncastell311.. I love what you've named your chickens! Bruce Lee! Love it! I think I might name my next roo Jackie Chan. And the other one Neil DeGrasse Tyson ( nobody will get that one but he's a "famous" physicist).

:D

Thanks, Happy Chooks!

Flowerbh- it's not as pink in the natural light, more of a peachy-beige color. I can't be 100% certain, but I think it was one of my partridge rocks. My Dominique's eggs have more of a gloss on them, and these are not shiny at all.
