First Egg Countdown!!

I have an Austra White that seems to be getting close. She is 18 weeks and has a bright red comb.

Cool. Maybe we'll get our first eggs about the same te!

Congrats to all. We are on countdown with 1 BR and 1 RIR both about 18 wks. BR has gotten very red this week. Quite loud and grumbly too. The RIR isn't quite as close. We have 1 yr BA who I hope will show them the ropes. These are replacements from a predator attack, so we can't wait to get back in to eggs. I actually had to buy eggs last week! Can't wait for homemade again!

I have 3 RIRs that are 16 weeks, 4 BO and 4 BR that are 15 weeks. (and 4 10 week old EEs)

The BRs are getting very red wattles and combs. I opened up the nesting box area and put golf balls and wooden eggs in them. Today I found a couple BR feathers in the nesting box, so I know they are checking them out. I haven't seen any squatting yet.

It's so hard to be patient, but I don't have a choice. Watch and wait.

An egg!!!! It's small and quite long but YEAH for our BR. We may have to call her Liberty for laying her first on the 4th of July! Our BA seemed to be outside the coop cheering her on (or telling her to hurry and get out). Best wishes to those still watching!

First egg today! The hens are 17 weeks old. I thought it odd that they stayed in the coop until late morning when they are usually out at sunrise, but I didn't search for an egg until I went out this evening to freshen their water, check their feed and give them some freshly clipped grass as a treat. I opened the coop and found this just inside the door.
