hi friends!! our dear Butter has laid her first egg, but it was done underneath our stairs, using a nest made out of bubble wrap!
me and my mother were outside doing our own thing when we noticed she was under our stairs and was in a nest sort of thing… we were like “huh maybe she will lay soon..” yeah, she laid soon!! a little bit later she made a bunch of bawking noises and did a little walking around and then we noticed she had laid her first egg!!!
i have had the nesting boxes closed off in our coop so they wouldn’t associate it with a regular sleeping area when they are put to bed and so they wouldn’t poop in it either. but now i’m unsure what to do, should i move the makeshift nest into the coop? i have yet to buy straw for them as this was unexpected, of course, lol. i will go out soon to buy straw, or whatever you all suggest!
i have removed the makeshift blockade i created in the nesting boxes so they will have access to it now, i also put in some soft fabric we had outside in our patio to sort of show them it’s a nest type of thing?
first time having chickens, would appreciate any comments!! thank you!!
p.s. the gas can next to Butter in the photos is empty
