I used my moms!
my first popped out a few hours ago, he seems sad in there with all the peeping eggs, im waiting for another to get out so they go to brooder together,
I guess it's possible that the cardboard could hold in moisture. I've never hatched in cartons so I've never experienced it...lol I would say if there is significant time between your hatches to calibrate before each hatch. If you are doing back to back hatches then I'd say after every three or four?? I don't hatch back to back, so before each hatch is better for me.Sorry to jump in, but I know all the pros are on this thread...lol. Amy, if you're there chime in! I have a small cap of water in my incubator and it usually runs it at about 30% humidity. But it's now running 50%, way to high for me. I am doing one thing different, I have my (shipped) eggs in cut down, individual cardboard egg cartons, instead of plastic, like I had before. Could the cardboard be causing more humidity? My second question is how often should I calibrate my hygrometer? I've only used it one previous hatch right before this current batch. Should I remove the small cap (toothpaste) of water and run dry? It's only day 2. Thanks so much!!
I'm assuming that you want to give them a bath because they still have dried membrane and not so fluffy spots?? You just use warm water. You can use a little cup or bowl as a tub or just wet them real good with a warm wet washcloth. I would use dawn blue dish detergent if you needed a little soap. Who was it that said they used baby shampoo?? Just keep their head out of the water and don't let water get in their nose. Make sure you dry them off well. Some people even use blow driers...lol And get them back under their light. When can I, and how do i give my silkie chicks a bath?
