First Time Egg Candler Scared!

I have seen a lot of people ask this and folks always tell them to let nature take its course. It will fall off. I have never had it so I'm not sure how long.
My very first had it. I let it shrivel up on it's own it took a good 2-3 days for it to shrivel up and then I cut it off by the belly. But he was an only chick, so I didn't have to worry about other chicks pecking at it.

The umbilical cord takes a while to dry out and fall off, that's why if it doesn't pull apart on it's own, I suggest tying it up near the chick with floss or thread and cutting it. If you put it in with other chicks while it's still dragging it around the ther chicks will most likely peck at it. As for the membrane, eventually it will wear off. It just wonlt fluff up until it does.

you know we should call you flying fingers you've ben a member for how long and have that many post . I'm already in trouble with my daughter for being on line so much. off now feeding time.

LOL 7 months!! As my ex likes to remind me "I like to talk", as I remind him, I am usually with our 7 year old son and my 84 year old father, so if someone listens, I talk...lol
