First Time Egg Candler Scared!

Candling is the sure way to know, but during lockdown candling isn't advised. Can you, yes, it's your hatch. The humidity is most important while they are pipping and hatching. I personally try not to candle until they are late or most everyone else has hatched, but a hatcher has to find what is comfortable for them. If you do, you are looking for a triangular shadow in the air cell. (The beak.)  The other way you know if a chick has internally pipped is if you hear chirping inside the shell.

my chicks are a bit small so I think they are behind in development. I think my temp was half a degree low and we lost power in the night during a storm last week not sure for how long. They have been still growing since the power outage.

Oh, I forgot, you have the Octagon 20. The power outage won't kill them, but they may be behind. Like Amy said, you can candle them, but I don't. With the power outage and possible low temp, you could be looking at a day 22 or 23 hatch, but chances are the chicks are healthy. What day are you on, and what was your humidity for the first 18 days?

The other sure way to know an egg is internally pipped is to wait for the external pip

I'm sorry for putting it in your head... I haven't had time to work on mine at all!

My sister in law had hughes net for a while and hated it too. I think they went to cellular or satellite or something.

Hughes net is satellite. They keep trying to get me to bundle with my dish. I have DSL and it's unlimited. I dread the day have to take something with data caps. Between using internet greatly for homeschool stuff and my son and I both use a high percentage just for play, it'd kill us.
