first time getting shipped chicks

I ordered 21 chicks the end of May from Meyers, no extras came, no heat pack, regular shipping to upstate NY. The weather was not too warm, but not cold either. All arrived healthy and I had no losses. I wanted one Welsummer cockerel, but ordered two just in case. It's nice they will let you order just one if you want though, most hatcheries will do that.

I'm trying to decide which hatchery to get cornish x chicks from in the spring, ideal, central, meyer?

I'm also looking for white French muscovy ducks, but forgot which hatchery has them.

There a little more $ than some but check out the description of Murray McMurray's. They have the fast growing jumbo cornish x and ones they call cornish roasters that

"takes about 2 weeks longer to mature than the Jumbo Cornish X Rock but still has all of the same qualities; large breast and thighs, yellow skin, and is easy to dress. Because it grows slower, many of the potential leg problems are often eliminated. This bird is more active than our Cornish X Rock and has a fine feed conversion rate." MMM

I don't have any experience with them but if I was ever going to raise the 'frankenchicken' that looks like it's going to die on it's own before you butcher it, I would probably try those slightly slower growing ones.

I got the call from the post office at 9am this morning! My chicks shipped yesterday! All 4 girls look great, alert and happy! No pasty butt and none appear weak. The heat pack was still nice and warm!

YAY!!! They look great! Did they show up via overnight shipping or 2 day travel? 2 more weeks and mine should FINALLY be here!

They came USPS priority express my delivery window was Wed-Friday, they arrived first thing this morning!
Good luck with your order!!! Where did you order from?

They are coming from Meyer also...that is why I was curious. I am in Arkansas...so yours transited over our state probably via air at some point. :)

Well, my first time getting chicks shipped has turned into a giant PITA. They were only coming from three hours away, and they're MIA. So I get to take a second day off work (which my boss is NOT thrilled about), and I feel like paying for express was pointless. Not sure I will ever do this again.
