First time hatching and raising button quail

Im thinking 100 watt should be enough for a small brooder. I have a reptile light fixture holder on hand that i usually use for the reptiles so should be able to adjust it up and down. I also got a thermometer that gives me an alarm when temperature goes too low or high so it should be very useful.

And thanks for the info, i was planning on using the parakeet feeder/drinkers but didn't know they could be used from day one. I will also be using paper towel for food and jar lid for water just like you said.

I have the same stand. I believe my bulb is 150 watt, and I still lower it further down than the arm reaches, for the buttons, but I’m not totally sure of the wattage, and they’re in use now so I can’t unscrew them to check.

Hmm my brooding tank won’t be too large so i wonder if having a 150 watt heater above it would give them a gradient. I think ill try 100 first and who knows maybe ill need the 100 sometime in the future if i do need a 150.

I use a black ceramic 60 watt heat bulb. - Yes, they do tend to give off a bit of a smell for awhile it seems. I also put a heating pad under their little brooder box on half the area and put it on 'low' so the floor is warmer for them since we are in basement area.

i guess for brooding small ammount of chicks (14 eggs but I don't have high hopes for shipped eggs honestly), i wont need a 100-150 watt. 75 maybe is enough? i think ill also give them the heating pad to keep their feet warm. do you put the heat pad under or inside the box?

I've raided baby buttons before. One of the things I was warned about was drowning in water dishes. Bottle caps with small semi large pebbles (small enough to fit in the lid and big enough not to be swallowed). I was not warned that they will jump/glide/ fly out at two weeks. I used a twenty gallon aquarium and I found out I needed a lid. I used a heat lamp to keep them warm and fed Higgins super potent pellets ( had to crush) and Purina chick crumble (I think it was called).

sorry for the very late reply, i was off for a few days. i also heard about the water dishes but i did not know they would fly out already at two weeks. will terrariums work for them better than? the front opening ones with a mesh top where i can put the heater on top and still open from the front?

i cant find high protein chick feed here so i think ill give them some unmedicatied chick feed with added protein. Could something like this work? it says insect meal, high protein chicken suplement.

I don't think that's going to give them proper nutrition. It's a supplement rather than a complete feed. You could add that to chick feed, though. You want about 28-30% protein.
