First Time Hatching....Round 2

I am still waiting on my eggs!!!! They shipped out on monday, and should have been here yesterday. They are only coming from Arizona, so its not that far to travel. Gosh I cant even explain my frustration and worry over those poor eggs.

two out of three egg shipments that i've had sent to me did not make it in the two to three days promised by the postal services priority mail shipping times, it's incredibly frustrating given the fact that i start loving my chicks well before they're born. i feel your frustration.

Hi all!

I just found this thread and found it very interesting so thought I would share! I am so glad to know that I'm not the only one addicted to incubating eggs! :)

I am also on my second time hatching and just went into lockdown yesterday (day 18). I have a Hovabator that Santa brought me for Christmas and a few weeks ago I bought some local fertilized Buff Cochin eggs to try it out. I bought a dozen Cochin eggs and she gave me three that were a mix. I hatched 10 cochins and 1 mix. A week or so after, a friend gave me some Marans, Old English batams and Lavendar Orpington eggs and I was able to hatch two Marans, two Lav Orpingtons and one Old English Bantam. It is sooooo addicting! This time, we have our own eggs in the incubator - some Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, Silver-Laced Wyandottes and some mixes from a Buff Orpington with either a Welsummer, Buff Orpington or Golden-Laced Wyandotte father!

Can't wait to see what develops as once we set the eggs, I had trouble regulating the temperature and it did spike to 103. I candled at day 7 and again at 14 and most looked viable. I took out one that was porous and not developed. I didn't candle again when I took out the turner and now wish I had!

The first time, it was awesome to hear them peep through the shell!!!

Thanks!
Susan

I am hatching large Cochins this time and I was surprised at how small the eggs were. I bought them on Ebay... do you know if this is typical for Cochins? Maybe the seller just sent me what he had laying around after shipping out all the nicer looking eggs, I don't know. They all seem to be developing, though. I can't wait to see what I get.

You hatched some gorgeous breeds! I would love some Lavender Orpingtons. Lucky you! It sounds like your new chicks should be hatching in the next couple of days!
