We love our speckled sussex! They are so gorgeous and good mannered (for the most part) I want to get a Roo so I can hatch those eggs... I love how they lay speckled eggs also!

I am seeing some foamy poops every once in a while. It was more often, but things seem to be firming up now. I think I might also add some apple vinegar. My biggest problem right now it the chicks eating the pine shavings. I added shavings two days ago, and they still seem to be nibbling at it.

I have chicks trying to fly also, but it looks more like they are playing leap grog.

Well it looks like I will be officially setting the incubator thursday morning, my shipped eggs should be here wednesday. So I will have 12+ Dorkings and 10-15 of my barnyard mix. Dang it I am going to be about a week behind you guys! Oh well, at least you all will keep me entertained until then.

I had a friend over last night, and as I was explaining that I had more eggs coming they just couldn't understand why I needed to hatch more chicks. lol. Well I had to say..... because I can. I am going to give half of the barnyard mix to a friend, and well the Dorking eggs are a great excuse to add onto the coop and run.

Our chicks seem to be doing ok. I haven't noticed any ailments, in fact they seem to be doing almost to well.
We're having a beautiful day in eastern NC so I let them outside in their hoop pen for the afternoon. Here are a couple of pics. Looking at them it seems hard to believe they are only two weeks old.

I used my layer pellets as bedding for our chicks so I don't have to worry if they peck at it.

That sound expensive. A bale of hay or even grass clippings would be harmless and a lot less costly.

Grass clippings aren't an option right now but maybe I will look into hay! I have a VERY small brooder and the pellets work great but will probably get expensive after awhile!...
