There’s been no progress or activity in the incubator or with the chick that has pipped for 13 hours- can anyone tell me if that’s something I should be concerned with? I’m trying to remain calm but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit worried (it’s the mother hen in me-pun intended)

My wife called freaking out wanting to open the incubator, apparently I’ve got two hatched out already.
Saw 4 total had pipped this am before leaving for work.
I think day 21 is Thursday so worried I had temp too warm.

If they're bantams, that's to be expected. They tend to hatch out a day or two early. Tell Mom that they'll be okay in the 'bator for a bit. They need to be totally dry before you should consider opening the incubator. I usually wait until they're both dry and active ... as in, through that first, exhausted, "I finally got outta there" sleep!

Hi and welcome to BYC! The first hatch is ALWAYS the most stressful and seems like the longest because it's hard to tear yourself away from the incubator. I've had many many hatches and I still have a hard time walking away and not keeping close tabs on the eggs lol. Right now though, you need to sit on your hands and just wait. If often takes 24 hours or so for an egg to hatch once it's pipped through the shell. You don't need to worry yet Now, if you see the membrane turning brown as the opening or liquid coming out the pip, then you can get concerned but right now, everything is fine. Just make sure that your humidity starts up around 65% and don't open the bator

Don't open it if there are other eggs that are in there that are pipped. Opening it could cause a drop in the humidity which could shrink wrap the other chicks or cause the membrane to get glued to them, making it impossible for them to hatch on their own. Sometimes, certain breeds will hatch early like Seramas, other bantams, and often for me, turkeys. It's possible that the temperature may have been a little bit high but not terribly high. What kind of incubator are you using? Sometimes, still air type incubators will have warm and cold spots and could cause some eggs to hatch earlier than others. It's best to move eggs around the incubator throughout incubation in those types of incubators to make sure the eggs are incubated evenly.

I was aiming for barred rocks, have a large well mannered hen that lays large off colored eggs. My intent was to collect them from her rotating them until one hen went broody, so I did that for 4 months! In mean time i Ran across a 2 used little giant Bators, I added a fan to them.
The day I got home with the incubators home she went broody.
(Apparently she has a sense of humor)
These chicks in the oven are from other barred rocks when I could catch them laying.
As of now 4 chicks are out and very active one just now broke free and is wet, 4 more pipped but I’m sure one has drown or shrink wrapped , it pipped low in the egg and I had humidity a touch high so the air sack was smaller than it should have been. I haven’t seen any movement but feel the others will be out by in the am and will see how it faired.

That happens sometimes, usually with too high humidity. Chances are that one is probably gone. But your humidity couldn't have been too bad with all the other babies running around in there! Congratulations on your new littles!
