Sometimes my tanks get a little....too natural :lau
I do like soil and live plants, wood and rock. My tanks definitely don't rival a takashi amano tank but I enjoy them all the same lol.
That's terrible about your 75 gallon. Transporting tanks is no fun. I hope you go for the pond idea some day! Fish love to be outdoors. This is the first big pond I'll be doing but I've been "summer tubbing" for years. Moving fish outside in tubs for the summer and bringing them back inside for the winter months. It really gets my fish in good breeding condition.

:lau I totally get that!! I used to have a betta tank with live plants and it was like a jungle in there LOL I want to put plants and wood and stuff in my current ones. And lava rocks. Have all the stuff. Just need to do it haha well, need to order plants again :lau

I have to stuff in my betta tanks. Thought it’d be perfect for the live plants. :D

And yeah, I had it in there way too long because it was so heavy to take out so that was probably the problem. Made a turn a little too hard and fast one day and It went slamming into the side of the car  but the weird thing is it didn’t crack on the side. Just a little crack on the bottom. It might still hold water. Haven’t tested it. It might be under warranty maybe but I’m building the pond anyway.

And that’s awesome! I have a stock tank too I could use and we have a hard plastic pond shell so I might just use that rather than a huge one with liner and stuff. It’s better than their current tank haha I have the filter and stuff already too cause I bought it a few months ago.

I would like to get fish again... I started in ‘93(?) as a pre teen with a betta I hid in my dresser named “Ice”. He was blue, lived almost 5 years, and would jump and loved being petted/stroked. As I expanded into larger tanks things got more troublesome, eventually ending with a nasty ick infection in my 75 gallon tank. I would love to start up again... and have been eyeing those petsmart bettas , but until I have a house with some temperature and electric stability I’m refraining. Love the thread though, it brings back many fond memories. And I would love to start up again.
A little 5 gal. w/ the heater and lid would be good for a new friend. easy to move if needed...

That is an amazing idea! :love

I have a bunch of lava rocks currently but haven’t put them in yet and I think I have some mopani too and had live plants but sure theyre dead as I never opened them and I got them in November. the needing to soak is what’s putting me off from doing it haha
The mopani, Boil it as often as you can. It takes longer then any other wood that I know of. Mine was a month and still releasing tons of tanins. The charcoal filter is supposed to help take it out. If the piece is small enough put it in the back of your toilet. Every time you flush its a water change.

He sure did some beautiful work. Do you have pictures ?

Once I get some temperature and electrical stability I’m thinking 5-10 gallons, depending on how much Electricity I can add once we get the house finished. We are currently in an RV with no hookups, so not a pet friendly environment. But a small tank is hopefully in my future this year. I don’t want to go big again. Too much maintenance.

Thanks!! Very helpful! But oh wow that’s a long process  should’ve started sooner haha although I don’t mind some tannins or if the water is a little off color or whatever but should still probably try to get as much out as possible haha

Exactly how long did you drive around with a 75 gallon tank in your car? What are your fish in currently?

Like at least a month or two :lau  🙈 though in fairness I was supposed to have help getting it out and they kept not doing it haha

They’re still in the 20

I was nervous about the crack and the stock tank got nixed. But now it’s almost spring so I should be able to make the pond soon.

I think I’m going to dig in the pond soon.

I’ve been changing it a bunch for now though.

The bettas are each in 10s but I haven’t decorated yet. but the sponge filters are huge double ones so they hide behind those. And Flame has a floating log. Draco was scared of his but might add it back lol

Oh my. That was a long time. It is a heavy tank. I couldn't move one myself either. I think with a crack it's basically a lizard tank. I don't think you can seal a crack.

Yeah I know  but no one would help me haha and yes it is very heavy!! And yeah that’s what I was afraid of. I’ll have to get a picture of it though cause I don’t know if it’s actually a crack or not. Looks like one but it’s not huge. But I think heather big tanks have a lifetime warranty but idk. I want to be sure it won’t hold water though so I think I’ll try it outside haha
