Also I’ve been reading more on lava rocks and apparently they’re not a good idea for bettas (which I suspected/had read but had also read some reviews before saying theirs were okay) so I’m thinking I probably won’t put them in and maybe just stick with the wood? Don’t want them to cut/tear their fins all up. :(

But now I have all these lava rocks and no clue what to do with them :lau

Maybe they’d be okay covered with plants or moss? But then you can’t see them.

Would they be okay in another tank? :barnie I just don’t know!!

I could probably put them in with the bettas and see I guess but they do have quite sensitive and long fins so :barnie
What do the rocks look like ? Size wise.. I have some in mine but just a few scattered around and they are small. I use them to transfer the good bacteria to a new tank.
Your plants, Dare I say? The crypts are famous for melting . Dont throw away dead looking plants. They will come back !

Huh, interesting! Maybe I’ll have to put some guppies in my spare 10 :D if they can fit in there? I’ve heard it might be too small for them since they swim a lot? I do have a 20 too.

I always like to give my fish ample space. And just... aesthetically, it doesn't look good when a big ol fish takes half a lap and has to turn around. That's said, I wouldn't think twice about guppies in a 10 gal. Guppies are constant busy bodies but they meander around the tank, grazing, going up and down a lot. Shoaling fish like danios or barbs look miserable in small tanks. They like to pace back and forth and really appreciate the space.
Endlers live-bearers are even smaller than guppies but closely related enough to breed. Most people "outgrow" guppies and move on to more rare or difficult to raise fish. But I keep coming back to them. They make everyone happy. They're incredibly peaceful. Breed like crazy. And if you're into genetics you can't manipulate any other fish like a guppy. You can really make progress in a breeding program In just a few generations.
I like to window shop aquabid. Some of those guppies are truly mind-blowing. Could give any Betta a run for their money.

They are pretty large and some have holes to swim through. Maybe I will avoid those ones lol I’ll get pictures later. Didn’t end up working on the tank today

And thanks!! Very helpful!!

Thank you so much for the info!! Really really helpful!! I never thought much of guppies before but never really had experience with them either. Now I may have to get some. :lau can they be in a planted tank? And can they have just a sponge filter like the bettas or will they need a real one? Cause I think I have an extra sponge one still.

And now you may have given me a new addiction and thing to drool over :lau

theres no fish stores here.
My DH will be having surgery soon and that requires going to the big city (Louisville) so if I dont panic on their one way roads maybe I can pick one up there.
may want to check greentree pet center in clarksville....they should have one in stock

greentree is in front of bass pro.....right around the bend from petsmart.....it’s small mom&pop vs the big box petsmart or feeders supply greentree is also 90%fish
If I ever get a chance I will check them out for sure. My DH is having surgery in New albany on the 9th but as badly as I got lost and being alone I probably wont go that way. I would sure like to though.

there’s a feeders supply just up state street in new albany too.....the best way to get back to clarksville from there would be to take i65 to veterans pkwy.....go past where you turned into petsmart and around a curve then greentree is on the left just before entrance to basspro
