I hate those. I usually buy mine off of Amazon. Tank heaters aren't cheap either. I just looked on chewy and they are more reasonable there. I like the solid ones.

I think some of the fancy varieties can be prone to fin rot in lower temperatures.
Most fish react to the water temperature. Perhaps slowly lowering your temperatures a bit may slow their reproduction? Just a theory. I know the warmer the tank the higher the metabolism on fish generally.

It's good to hear it works. It's probably why many cold water species live much longer than tropical fish.This, this is my main method of population control. By not heating any of my tanks I slow growth, reproductions, and it also slows the aging process. I have guppies that are easily 3 years old.
