I'd be intrigued to see a copy of this 'breeder list'. If by 'breeder list' you mean your opinion, my feelings won't be hurt. If 'low ranked' culls are laying better than your breeding stock, it might be worth reviewing your breeding program.

I assume you are a member of the yahoo Marans groups? we are, ask the breeders on Ron's group or the french group. ray's eggs aren't very popular.. and that's not just me.... nuff said there

Cara, I started a thread to show dated Marans egg pics and with an egg color chart. care to show?

Yes they did. Thank you.

Is the person a newbie or an experienced breeder? Maybe they don't know exactly what yellow legs look like. Did they send you a pic? I have trouble visualizing some of the colors used to describe leg color- Like Willow

Thanks may be new to Marans, but if this is not yellow then I must be color blind.

Again steve why you want to do this is beyond me ??? but here you go. This is just three pics I could get tonight as it is dark in their area and can not see real well. Now all I can hear is those are not my birds..... but they are. As all the others I have are a different kind of marans. and yes different cuckoos as well. but at any rate here are the pics bud.

There is one more that has the yellow legs, but like i say it is very dark and sorry, but here this should help ya.

Harp you really are a newbie and it shows. The legs will turn white as they age.... and since you are complaining you didn't even say the eye color was wrong... Adult Marans have red eyes, omg just wait, the eye color will change and the legs will whiten. it will be like sands magic. LOL

Have a nice day

The legs do not start out yellow and turn white!! I've had my Cuckoos for 7 years and have never hatched one with yellow legs. They should be white from the beginning.

I would try to remember that when people are thinking of buying hatching eggs, they search the old threads to see what people say about their stock, how they treat customers, etc. Something said today could have an effect on future sales.
Everyone is working toward better breeding. Let's make that amicable

GOOD marans should be white from the beginning.

This does not look good at ALL from a business standpoint. Customer service is apparently not high on the list of things to do.

Look like production maran eggs to me...definitely not worth breeding from (if you want a dark egg color).

I'm guessing most people don't own egg charts??
Does anyone know a good place to order them from?

Sandspoultry--Since Harp Turkey Ranch just started in Marans, I'm thinking she wouldn't have any laying yet to show pics of their eggs. And unless she happened to have an egg chart & take pics next to it prior to hatching chicks from the eggs she received, there'd be no way for her to provide requested photos.

It is neat to see that many different people are seriously working to nurture desirable traits in a breed that is very unique, distinctive and valuable (I hope more people in my area will get involved with Marans and bring more to the shows where I can enjoy the quality developed. I REALLY like them but don't have room to breed them.)

I'm sorry this is being so painful for those involved and I hope peace can be reached as much as possible.

Here's a copy of the Marans egg chart: I think they have to be at least a 4 to qualify as a Marans. I wouldn't buy from anything less than a 5 personally. You start counting on the chart from the top left.

I'm not the one selling questionable 'Marans'. I don't have a rooster!!

After sorting through all the...stuff....here, this is exactly the thread I needed about Maran's with yellow legs.

I have 15 from McMurray and I noticed that some of mine have yellow legs and some white. They are 7 weeks today.

Next month I'm taking my culls to the processor, should I cull out the yellow legged birds? I know at least one roo has yellow legs but I'll have to look closer at the pullets.

I also have questions about their feather color...is there another thread for that?

I don't think that will help you. The yellow skin gene which is the cause of yellow legs is recessive. If any of your remaining birds carry the gene, and are bred to another bird that carries it, they will still produce offspring with yellow legs even though they have white skin and white legs.

The only way to prevent it is to make sure you have an outside rooster that comes from a flock that you are sure does not carry the yellow skin gene. Then you will have to never cross mate any of the birds that have questionable ancestry.
