flakey skin

My 4 week yr old duck has very dry skin. My baby is always scratching and preening leaving flakes all over. I'm thinking that it is transitioning between down and feathers. Any thoughts?

Sounds about right - feathers come in with little waxy tubes around them and those break down releasing the new feathers. The little flakes are all around.

Have you been able to regularly let the duckling have a bath? No soap, just warm water(about 80 degrees F) at least up to its belly, then a nice warm dry place to dry off.

Thanks! He loved the warm bath. I had enough water in the tub so that he had his first swim as well!

Ever try bird diapers or a harness to catch poop. I want to try them to enhance family time with us in the house.
