Flesh wounds; what can i use from walgreens/drugstore, etc...

They were all alive this morning.

Its quite a bit of damage, I am surprised they didn't bleed out in the first place.

Chickens can usually survive nasty looking wounds with a little help from us. It's the stress of the attack that can kill them.
The easiest stuff to use that I have found for nasty flesh wounds, even wounds where the skin was gone, is a product called WonderDust. You can find it at places like Tractor supply or maybe even your feed store. Usually in the horse section. You just clean the wound and puff that stuff on. It puts a scab on the wound quick. It has antibiotic properties and drys the wound up. Flies stay away, etc. Didn't even need to bandage my girl, although I would recommend caging them in a clean area for a couple of days. I only had to tend to my hen initially when she was wounded. After applying that stuff, I didn't have to mess with her again. She had a gash and large piece of skin gone. I've used the stuff on chicks with bloody navels too.
I highly recommend having it on hand in your animal medicine cabinet.

Well, my two BSL's didn't make it, but the injured RIR is eating and drinking. I think she will be ok.

Now, to replace them, I cant have a rooster so I was thinking a wild/aggressive hen, or something huge like Jersey giants.

What do you think? These girls are free range of my large yard, and the vacant acre of JUNGLE next door. The dog is usually with them, but when I go out of town, he stays with a friend.

Really I need a rooster, but I cant have one. The neighbors love my hens and the eggs, but no rooster.

If your going to free range your going to have to change types of chickens. Tame won't work. You have to get flighty chickens, if you want eggs get leghorns.

Thanks, I may wait and see what the feed stores have, I think they had those last year.

What about jersey giants? too friendly?

The only jersey Giants I have been around couldn't fly good enough to get away from dogs. You might try some different strains of bantams besides cochins. I've seen some bantams that could get away from dogs.

I have Silver Spangled Spithaubens they are flighty and alert to changes in their environment. I could send you eggs if you covered shipping and hand an NQB8R

^ thanks for the offer

My two bsl's died the next day. I went to the feed store and got wonder powder for the rir that was still alive. she is looking good now, feathers growing back.

That wonder powder scabbed up the wounds overnight!
the other girls pick on her because she limps, but dont actually pick at the wounds
