Flock/Life Journey's 2019

Sounds good so far!
I know I'm trying to add a roof to my run (plug plug plug lol) which I found to be worth the extra money. Dust baths anytime, not so messy runs and no snow to shovel out. Even though my run roof is half of the run, it's still super helpful.

Do you have any plants in your coop?

Kind of. I have overgrown peppermint/tea leaves that go around the run which the chickens pick at thru the wire. I grow some leafy vegetables (lettuce, swiss chard) outside the coop/run for the chickens to play with when free-ranging. They love those.

I think I might do the same love. I found this information to help keep them healthy.

This colour is going to be for my Coop Updates.
This is some of the ideas I have written down so far.

  • 44 gallon plastic drum for catching water off the tin roof.
  • More cup water feeders.
  • 6 to 8 nesting boxes.
  • Plastic containers for nesting boxes for easy cleaning.
  • Sand in the roost and run (still think further on this).
  • Pavers under the water and feeders. Hopefully less mess in the feeders.
  • 10kg x2 outside feeders. The ones the chickens stand on to open them.
  • Roosting area above the Nesting boxes making it darker.
  • Curtains on the front of the boxes.
  • Netting over the top of the run with wire or cable to help keep it high up.
  • Plants around the outside of the coop - chicken friendly for them to munch on.
  • Table and Chairs to sit with them while they are free ranging.
  • A grass patch in the coop thats meshed off for the ladies to eat.
  • Dust bathing area.
If you think of any ideas I could consider please let me know :hugs:love
Chickens like herbs ~ I learnt this the hard way. :) I'm planting fly & mosquito repellent ones around my new coop.

I put in a *sand pit* 'cause a neighbour had sand bags he was trying to offload. One of the girls favourite areas ~ so I would definitely go sand if you have it. And my girls love their logs ~ & like me you can probably scrub bash for them so they wont cost.

Edited to add, I do the pavers thing under the food & water. Definitely helps!

I did start researching what srubs they can eat. I was thinking some vines too. I was thinking maybe grapes if they can eat them.

I think @WhoDatChick either has grapes or was considering grapes. Pretty sure they're ok. I've planted passionfruit. Everyone is still alive despite nibbling on the leaves.

Wasn’t me... I don’t have anything planted around the coop... you know me and gardening ... I’ve given them grapes... they love em! The only planting I’ll do is.. I plan to put some large bushes on one side for shade..
