Still praying for her :hugs:hugs

That is the cutest photo! You should try submit that photo for the next calendar love! @rjohns39 do you have any idea if a photo can be submitted for next years calendar?

There will be a contest before the next calendar goes to print.

Flock Update!
I checked on my girls today and Hazel was standing sooo still looking out at the bushland as I have never seen her do before. I went upto the coop and even went in the coop and she wasn't moving or even looking at me or noticing I was even there! I think something might have tormented them. Coco and Almond were up in the nesting boxes and came down when I came in the coop. Then they were trying to get out until Hazel told them off and they didn't want out them. Really strange.

I asked Jordan to check them and he said they are ok and had 2 eggs. One was Hazels so shes still laying and didn't look sick so im not sure what was going on.

Hazel clearly saw a threat. Often they see, hear, smell things we don't. Just yesterday, I was out and all the girls made a bee line for their houses or hid under things. I looked for at least 10 minutes not seeing anything and then there it was a low flying hawk.

How long does it take to make rice? If it is in the 20 minute range, then you have a rice cooker
Yes! Maybe it is a rice cooker after all lol, sometimes it burns the rice, but if I turn it off before it goes to the "keep warm" part, it is good

My grandmothers doing good, she's having surgery to set the leg and have plates put in to keep it in place. She won't be able to walk for at least three months.

My sister has helped me out the last couple of days by putting my flock up. They where bad girls about going up yesterday so they will have to stay in the coop today.

My sister isn't particularly fond of chickens, so she did the minimum for my flock. I just got around to collecting eggs and I got seven Bantam eggs and my first two muscovy eggs!

I'm having bad thoughts on these duck eggs. You know... Hatch-y thoughts... I've never done any duck incubation, so I'll have to do more research.

Glad your grandma is doing well. I've only successfully hatched pekin eggs that were 2 weeks into incubation.. I've tried hatching muscovy eggs but nothing. My hen was able to hatch a few, do you have a broody hen? Muscovey eggs take 35 days to hatch, others take 28.

Its official! Im going To throw in the towel on my hoing pigeons for now :( the snap freeze these past few weeks pushed the coopers to the breaking point and he apparently scouted the entire loft till he found where some ties on the roofing wire had snapped from the snows wieght before I cleared it(I didn't relize it had happend of course) but the bird went full on assassin and squish its way into the maybe hand wide opening between the chain link and loft back(loft is surround by 10×10 chain link covered area) crawled at least 3 feet to get through to the actual aviary/loft and proceed to kill and eat 2 birds this morning :( it was trapped in the loft when I went out to feed early thos morning and caught me by surprise when in slammed right into me trying to get out. Thinking I'll shut down my pigeon attempts and convert it to quail or some such, although I'll keep my remaining birds till something takes them -_-.

aWw they were so colourful and beautiful, sorry for your loss!

Maybe you could call the place and speak to a manager and not mention the boy just mention that you observed a staff member. Toughing things and then toughing the food. Maybe they could have a chat to the staff to be mindful of hygiene and cross-contamination when it comes to food prep.
I would explain to them that you were going to do a Survey or Review but you don't want to tarnish the place. You just want them to be aware. Don't mention the Cancer part or the manager might be someone of those people that just brush that off.

That's what I would do.
That is a great idea, thanks! I will probably do it while im in the states or when I come back.

gahh DS insists on touching the touchscreen, I'm going to sign off for now. I was about to disable it but we are leaving for the states tomorrow morning and DH will come back Monday without us until DS and I return on the 23rd of March...why did I have to pick the 23rd lol...

Have a great day all

Good morning. Quick update on the flock and a question. I've recently reconnected with my 14 year old daughter after nine yersy so forum time has been limited.

A couple days after we got our first egg we started letting them out of the coop .It started as a couple hours at night and now it's all day. I have s fenced in yard. Within a week we went from around two or three eggs a day to four or five consistently.

A couple days ago my neighbor took the rooster, which is ok since we hated that thing, and replaced it with a another hen. We didn't know he did it so we let the flock out yesterday. This is the same neighbor we got the chickens from and has been rasing them longer than us.

The new hen got out of the yard. Did a little research and decided to clip all their wings. My daughter and I did four of the six.
I'm not sure if we got the new hen but think we did since one was isolated in the coop.

Question. Is it better to let them get used to each other in the coop or let them out in the yard and establish the pecking order there? They have plenty food and water and a cabbage hanging from a rope to play with.

Secound set of babies arrived today from Cackle hatchery! (my first set was Meyer ) and I can tell the difference! All chicks were totally alive plus the 2 extras in addition to my 15 and they even gave me an extra duckling (I think a Swedish, in addition to my 8 Cayugas! One baby has splay leg and is small but I hope to take a splint to fix it(never had splay legged chicks before) and a really tiny buff orp who suspect may not make it to tommorrow judging by its lethargy. But all the other babies were immediatly eating and drinking in comparison to my first set and seem much more Lively so heres to hoping I only face one or two losses if any!

You can use rice cookers for a lot of things! Look for recipes for them
