Your chickens were stolen and now are being slaughtered by this mans dogs. You have every right to walk in there and get your birds back. You have pictures!! Take the police with you! Call the paper or the news!! Only the humane society has the right to take animals away...not these people.

You have every right to walk in there tonight when they are roosting (cause that's when you get chickens) with three big guys friends and get your birds back. If he wants to press charges against you for stealing, tell him GO RIGHT AHEAD!!! I'll see ya there! No court in this nation would blame you!!
Not a good idea. You can be charged with trespassing and/or shot if caught.

Not to mention having to deal with the dogs that are hanging out and eating the chickens. I can see where you can't get much response from the State Police. They don't deal with these sorts of matters. It's the local law enforcement that needs to be handling this. If there isn't a local police dept. then there certainly has to be a sheriff in that jurisdiction. That is who needs to be contacted. I wouldn't even mess with them over the phone. I would go to the sheriff's dept. that handles that area and file a report. If you're there in person it is a little harder to blow you off. It sounds like the safety of the chickens is a huge factor here and this needs to be dealt with A.S.A.P.

do you have district magistrates? we live in a small town too and thats where you go if you are suing someone for less than $5000. It may get your birds back if he wants to settle, or if, God forbid, its too late you can at least hit him in his pocket. Can you contact an attorney, it is definately theft, livestock is property in the laws terms. Would the police have blown it off if it were 30 beef cows?
edited, my sister is in her last year of law school in Boston and is interning....Im going to call and ask her.
OK MY SISTER SAYS YOUR BEST BET IS SMALL CLAIMS COURT, IT IS DEFINATELY THEFT AS LIVESTOCK IS OWENED AND HAS VALUE. IF THE POLICE WONT DO ANYTHING SUE HIS PANTS OFF. LETS SEE, COST OF CHICKEN $, COST OF RAISING THE CHICKEN $$, rEPLACEMENT VALUE $$, LOSS OF POTENTIAL EGGS LAYED $$ = $$$$
Don't you know any people, like men who can go with you and get those chickens? Do you have any pictures of your flock? Can you take or get some pics of them at this horse farm?
ok well i had to laugh at kinnip-running on anger! lol
well no word back from attorney generals office. also i am unable to go there myself. i have seizures so i dont drive..in a way i think that the 3 people involved are taking advantage of that! i am 4 hours maybe a little more from lebanon maine. single mom of 4 kids so to be honest i dont know how im going to even take these losersto court. i know theyre counting on me dropping it and going away. i am so tired. ive been dealingwiththis since july 9th!!!
ive checked livestock laws here-i dont see anything pertaining to this really. you know when i was first told the birds were found i thought this is it-finally i can go get them and start moving foward..
now its like what the heck? i mean my birds are nice but wow! these people probally know more than we do-that they can actually get away with this!
.. they dont seem very worried to be honest. they know i have no money ,no transportation..
theres a lawyer not far from here and i am going to call him and seewhat he says-maybe if i pay him to just send some letters and phone calls to these 3 theyll get scared..what do u all think? its clear the law is not going to help me!
The lawyer is worth a try but you also need to write a letter to the editor for your newspaper and call your local news station. They eat this stuff up! The letter to the editor shouldn't cost you a penny and the news should come to you, so that won't require any driving for you. You need to press this matter and not give up! These are your birds, you live in a law abiding nation, and you have rights too. Don't give up!
