I've been looking at the video footage from Brisbane, and it IS tragic. It is amazing that there haven't been more casualties (aside from property damage). I'm so glad you and yours are safe and in a position to help those in need. Good luck with the cleanup.

We flooded here this past May..not as extreme area wise but did have houses floating down the interstates and roads along with the cars .People stranded on roof tops waiting to be rescued.2 feet of rain in a few hours.We live on a big river which flooded beyond records but live on top of a hill.We vacation on the Ocean every year our river sounded no different as it crashed the banks and everything in it's way for days after...scary how dangerous it suddenly becomes.We were stranded at home since all the bridges out were under water and many roads washed away-9 months later many roads are still gone many people still homeless and several died the last body was just recovered before the Holidays.But throughout all good things did happen...our area is one that pulls together in a crisis(that's why it made very little National news here) we helped each other and didn't wait for the Government to help-they were days late and lots of money short.We helped people we knew and now have new friends from those we all helped we didn't know before.A few short miles away from us they had a rain shower-what was predicted for that day no flooding the hows and why's of Mother Nature are not to be reasoned with.
When the water resides there the work will be just beginning but for your area also some good will arise from it.It may take awhile to see but it will come.
And yes,thankfully all of our animals even the chickens made it through..wet and unhappy but alive and at the end of the day..and the flood that is all that really mattered.
