Florida welfare drug testing

Why do people keep telling these folks they need help and the only way is by us taking care of you, THAT IS WHAT IS ILLOGICAL as it leads you into a corner to just be fed by the government and your offspring. These people need a hand up not out. What would you say If I told you I was on welfare? I may be, now maybe I will get some compassion? you use your compassion to derail the poor keep them poor by telling them we love you and just want to help you and all you have to do is let us help you so we can feel good about ourselves but God forbid you help them out of the welfare system you just keep them there which is worse for them than sterilization it robs them of their self worth. Now you can close this thread like you always seem to do.

If I ended up as a single mother, with a minimum wage job, working 40 hours per week, I would qualify for food stamps.

$7.75 per hour, 2000 hours a year equals less than $16,000 per year. Federal poverty level, which food stamps, and most other "welfare" is based on, is set at $18,500 for a family of three. So this is what is called working poor. You still are at 85% of the federal poverty level, are working, but still can't make it.

I am outraged by the abuse that this charitable effort has spawned. I believe there is a need for public assistance in certain cases. I believe abuse should be weeded out and then those individuals disqualified for life. Drug testing seems to be the first effective step toward weeding out the drug abusers. I hope that someday other types of abuse can also be isolated and removed. This is an overburdened program while the 'working poor' are struggling to do the right thing and still not making ends meet. Lets reward people who are sincerely TRYING to make a living and doing all they can......not the ones who are taking advantage of the system and doing nothing productive. I also believe there should be a time limit on these benefits. If there is no incentive to do better and get off the dole, why would they? I endorse the idea of public help jobs being required if you get benefits. There are many useful things even handicapped people can do that benefit the community. I think there is dignity in doing something for the money, and it weeds out the lazy freeloaders who simply won't work even though they are able to.

Is family of 3 anyway of making 3 out of mom 2 kids, or mom husband 1 kid?

If you are working I have no problem with assistance even some job training to get a better paying job.I know and have met many single women that have done just that, one became a state cop working for minimum wage with 2 girls and got some criminal justice schooling and is now an Oregon state trooper and she was inner city and will tell you if she can do it anyone can, she was abused by her ex husband also.

although on paper I am a member of the working poor, we never go hungry, and I have the blast package along with HD etc for my cable. Oh, and I have a family of 8.. I've been close for signing up for foodstamps once, but never had to. What we can't grow/hunt/barter etc we have to buy.

With that being said, talking to folks I work with who have 4 kids from 3 dads who can't make the car payment on their Chrysler 300, complain that the rent at their upscale apartment is too high and they may have to find a cheaper place to live... And foodstamps don't go far enough.... Frustrating. I make the same basically, and I'm not on the public dole, and usually am the guy with a $20 in his wallet come next payday whereas this person is scraping enough to buy a pack of cigarettes and a gallon of gas.

Yeah, there is a lot of abuse in the system. More than many with lofty ideals may think. It has helped MANY legitimate folks out there I am sure.. but hey, I live near Flint and we had 4 shootings and a bunch of stabbings last night so I might be jaded about human nature in general...

A gentle reminder- we have made it 26 pages. Let us continue to be civil and kind to each other.

Thanks!

I now return you to your regularly scheduled debate.
