Florida welfare drug testing

a cop doing that for no reason would be in violation of the 4th ammendment though.. I wouldn't worry about work at that point as my name would then be over the township hall, or they paid me a big settlement... see the difference?

It happens ALL the time.

You and me are at the first crossroads, at odds so to speak. Being in the "poor house" was a shameful action unless you actually were in a bad way or had no other choice. I get p'd off when I see somebody pay for 400$ of groceries at walmart with their bridge card (food stamps) then go get into their BMW SUV that they parked right next to my very humble chevy tracker that I wrapped arounda 230lb deer a couple years ago. I mean.. Really?

Maybe that's just a Flint Mi thing tho..

Have to concur...drug testing has been for safety, for hiring on to a job. Allowing the gov to test without cause is just giving away more rights...how long before they make it mandatory for other things.

There is no right to privacy in public, so if gov believes someone may be using they can use standard investigation techniques. If the person is caught breaking any laws, sure, go ahead and cut them off... As long as the kids are looked out for, that is.

Boyd, that's very presumptuous. I'm pretty darn poor these days, but I still have my designer clothes and shoes from when I wasn't poor. I have a lot of nice things from when I wasn't poor. So you don't know the circumstances of that BMW.

But if you have nothing to hide it should be alright, shouldn't it? Isn't that the reasoning for folks wanting to drug test even the welfare recipients that have not violated a law? Like the elderly, or the handicapped, or even, God forbid, a teenager that was pregnant. Slap those folks down for needing assistance, why don't we? They should be alright with it if they have nothing to hide!

No, I don't see the difference. You would sue city hall if a cop searched your car for no reason but the simple act of needing assistance that one has worked and paid taxes into all one's life should get one a mandatory drug screening. No, I see no difference there....one of you is simply driving along minding your own business and the other is simply availing themselves of a program to which they have paid money and have a right to receive when it is needed.

Dacjohns, I agree wholeheartedly! Give an inch and you will be sweating that mile....some folks would simply LOVE to see their neighbor's little hen coop be inspected, fined, regulated and gone.

If its clearly stated on the paper work that is singed how can that be without probable cause if you agree to the test?If you don't want the testing don't apply.

yeah but this ONE intrusion is SO needed! So many little kids out there get fed cheap junk food because the FS mom spends most of it on drugs! They owe money for drugs so promise next months FS to pay it back....it's true ...I have seen it first hand.
Plus several homeless teens bunking in the same house, using 4 different friends addresses to get FS in the first place. Couch hopping down here is rampant. They will do anything....anything to get those food stamps coming in and they know just who will take them in exchange for what they really want. drugs or booze. I helped out at a church food bank several times and couldn't believe the nerve of some of those girls..they complained they didnt like any of the stuff they got (or their kids)

Ok, so drug testing to get a drivers license, a passport, to appear in court as a witness, or anything else, serve on a jury, walk down the sidewalk, send your kids to school, go to school, go to the post office, have mail picked up.....where will it stop? Do not give the gov more power over ours lives, thank you... It sets a precedent which is the ground work for future actions.

Food stamps are assistance, therefore those enrolled are in sense a ward of the state / fed govt. The program is riddled with fraud, ive seen it 1st hand for over 25 years and mandatory drug testing along with inspections I feel are way overdue and a welcome addition to the taxpayers who foot the bill for it.

Lets hope they do a good search for illegal aliens while they are at it
