Florida welfare drug testing

I would support drug testing for welfare benefits, but I would also want to know how they are testing for these drugs. After all, hard drugs like cocaine are no longer detectable after a certain amount of time, so testing, say, by urine sample, wouldn't be useful for people who use those drugs...

SSI and SSA are different. SSA you pay in or your spouse if you get a widows pent-ion.

SSI is like welfare but long term and for disabled only qualify.

I would not say that SSI is like welfare. Or SSDI for that matter. They are based on what you PAID IN already during your working years, not just an amount arbitrarily handed out.

Here in Washington everyone on SSI gets $674. There is SSD and SSA also. SSA and SSD are paid in by someone.

I lost use of my legs in a car accident last year. Before that i was a healthy weight, even thin, atheletic and active into my 30's. Now a good day is when I can be lifted out of bed and carried to a chair. I work when I'm able to, and claim the $ to SSD. Will we need to go on aid if mr saddi loses his job? yes. To drug test you could either take from a cathader, or an adult diaper, neither one leave me much dignity now. I'm not in a wheelchair because i'm fat, but being in a wheelchair has certainly added alot of weight (the meds i'm taking don't exactly keep a girl light). In many cases illness comes first and weight gain comes later.

Well, I can speak for SSDI (Social Security Disability Income), at least in Maine and New Hampshire. When I was diagnosed I was eligible for x amount per month specifically based on what I had earned throughout my life up until the point when I became ill. My entire income history was calculated to come up to x amount. I'm in NH. My mother on the other hand, tried to apply for SSDI for her bad back and was refused because she's never worked. They told her she hasn't put enough "quarters" in (the measurement they use to calculate how long you've worked), so she was denied. She lives in Maine. That's pretty much my extent of knowledge on it.

I think the poster is referring to fat overweight people using thier obesity as a way to get benefits when they otherwise could work. You have to go back to the original intent of welfare it was a hand up not a hand out and the rules were not enforced including follow up reports and fraud. They just sign you up to keep the system going. There are other private welfare programs that have tighter rules available but drugs are not allowed by most of them so you end up with legitimate user in those plans.

this i completely understand. but i dont believe this is your fault. im talking about when someones getting it just because of the weight and no other health problems. (and i understand your situation my grandmother has been in and out of the hospital now shes confined into a wheel chair and shes put on some weight from it.)

Saddina just gave an example of the point I was going to make. Obesity often has an underlying medical cause. Injuries, depression, heredity, and hormonal imbalances can all contribute to weight.
