fluffed up chick, not acting right

Are you feeding medicated starter? I am digging through old posts and have seen where dairy products have been used as an alternative treatment. Yogurt seems to be the first choice. Powdered milk was mentioned. Maybe it will buy you some time. Do you have any chicken meds? Terramycin (sp?) is supposed to be somewhat effective.

I am posting based on what I am reading, not personal experience.

Nope, no chicken meds at all... only cow/horse meds. I don't have any yogurt... no one in the house can stand the stuff lol. I also don't have any powdered milk. Would regular milk be worth a shot?

I understand you haven't tried it, but at this point I can't do anything but try. I don't have a doubt he will be dead by morning if I don't do anything anyway, so it can't hurt. I appreciate you helping me by the way.

Oh and yes I'm feeding medicated chick starter.

Think cultures sour cream, buttermilk, cottage cheese, cream cheese, or milk if you have nothing else.

You are welcome.

Make sure you smash up the lumps if you use the cottage cheese. You may need to dilute it with milk if she is very weak. Put the mixture in a spoon and try to get her to drink it.

It's got to feel crazy! Very good you've had them on medicated starter. It sounds like this little guy might not make it, but the early doses of medication may be a saving help to others.
Best wishes! And I hope you get some rest after a while tonight, too.

I guess the cottage cheese has already been eaten. What are the odds the one time I REALLY needed sour cream it was frozen lol. I had to stir it for a bit but it got runny enough he could drink it. I've been trying to get him to drink water and he basically refused, but he finally gave in with the sour cream. The first taste was a shocker for him but I got some down him. He even let out a couple of peeps, and acted like he wanted back in with the other chicks. He probably thinks I'm trying to kill him lol. I put him back up and I'll see if I can get some more down him in a few minutes. I hope this works. If it does I'm going to call him Taco lol.

You might want to get some polyvisol vitamins without iron for their water. It might help.

I'm so very sorry. I had sick chick, but nothing like this. I hope you don't lose anymore.
