I found just a sugar water mixture with a slight red dye Works great!!!

And any container you can make a hole in a liter soda pop bottle works well I cut V shaped notch and bend it into the bottle, place cap on and hang or place wherever ...lol

Also, one that works AMAZINGLY well on fruit flies (I often get them in the house while canning veggies) is put some apple cider vinegar in a bowl with just a squirt of dishsoap. Last time I put that out (last week when making strawberry preserves) I literally caught 7 within 5 minutes. If you leave it overnight, they are all in there the next morning.

If you add vinager to any of the liquid baits that you are using it will normally help to keep it from attracting bees, I'm not sure why but it does.

The bag of water method did nothing for the flies around our rabbit pen. I saw flies landing on it. I use DE in their litter boxes and it's cut the fly population way down. Haven't tried anything for the chickens yet. We have cattle so I think it's a losing battle (the rabbits are up by the house but the chickens are closer to the cattle barn). I have heard that the yellow tree air fresheners may help so I'm going to get some of those if I ever remember to. If it doesn't work, at least they'll make the coop smell a little better.

The ziplock filled with water is posted quite often. It is usually hung in doorways and windows, sometimes with shiny pennies in the bag of water. I have never tried it, but here in Seattle burbs flies are not a huge problem. It is thought that it messes with the flies vision.
I have used vinegar and sugar for fruit flies in the house, and it does work.

btw- never eat balsamic vinegar in a restaurant. That sweet vinegar bottle will often be full of fly bodies.
