For the love of god that was disgusting!

fantastic! That means my barred rocks are about to lay, and also the ameraucanas, the sexlinks, and oddly one of the younger buff orps ( 15 weeks) got mounted last night too...think that means nothing probably though.

but i dont see any benefit really to discouraging the roosters from doing what their natural animal instincts are telling them to do.

It's not discouraging to them, cuz they keep coming back for more when I'm not around. That's mother nature for you. But it's best that they know their place in your presence, unless you want a roo that feels he's dominate over you. And I've had that problem, don't want it again. (especially with those long spurs, they will nail you when you aren't looking)When I am out with them, they know who the boss is. That's all that it is. It might bend their ego a little, but they never give up trying to climb that ladder!

I too do not let the Rooster Dance occurr in my presence. Per something I read on this site, I have to be the Alpha Male and letting the dance occurr with me there is a sign of disrespect(to me the Alpha) and cannot be tolerated.

This works well for me, I have 6 and 4 year old daughters and do not want to explain 'The Dance' just yet.

So far my rooster has calmed down(after a couple feet hanging episodes) and no longer tries to dance when I am around....

Okay All, with that theory of let the rooster tell you who is about to lay... I should have at least 15 eggs a day LOL... Time to go out there and take everything down to the dirt!!!!!!!!! Get rid of all by bushes, weeds, leaves, ect and so on... LOL...
I do have to say.. DH said that he is going to start knocking me off my roost!!! LOL... I woke him up from laughing so dang hard reading this post

Well, I certainly won't allow a rooster to dance for ME! That is disrespectful and mine never have done that, but if one did, he'd be scooped up and carried around like a sack of potatoes and loved on and humiliated in front of his women.

I see the young roosters paying attention to the ones whose combs are reddening and that I also know are about to lay. Sometimes, I just let them tell me whose going to be the next to lay. It's almost foolproof.

Well, that's great!!! My roo seems to favor the EE's. I just thought he liked pea combs or something but I guess they're the more mature out of the bunch.

My roo is starting to get a lil bit of action from some of the girls (EE's) but 15 minutes!!! I thought the little 5 second grab, hop on and thrust was it. I don't think I ever want to see the "rooster dance" if it's that long and gross.
