For those of you don't vote....

To this day I am still lost as to why Japan attacked the US. I understand that coning them in to it was good for the US an the Allies but even papers from Japan tells you that they knew they were shooting there self in the foot by the attack. Yet they still did it.

Are you trying to say that you think our government conned the Japanese into attacking Pearl Harbor?

I dont know but thats a working theory for years. Then a paper was released because of the Freedom of Information Act that was date a year or so before. It layed out a plan to goad them in to attacking us so we could join the war. It was apparently followed to the letter. Q9 pointed me to it. So I don't know but it is possible.

can I lighten it up? I had a dude stop by who was running for some small office in our county...he was going door to door soliciting votes...he showed up here, out where Moses lost his sandals, in his red neck pick up, sort of clean white undershirt, bermuda shorts, flip flops with grubby feet. He was unshaven...he left me his card and asked me to vote for him. I didn't.

I voted and have missed only a couple electrions when I was out of country and did not get my absentee ballot in a timely manner...I try to educate myself so I can make a decent decision...I have voted all parties, D, R, Independant, Libertarian...

Mister dirty feet was one of the saddest/funniest office seekers I have seen...

from my understanding Japan warned if a trade embargo was imposed on the+, which it was, it would have to be considered an act of war. What were we to expect from them? We pretty well knew it was going to happen, just not when and where. Did we prepare correctly for it? I sure dont think so. Then again life is all about making mistakes and attempting to correct them and then not make them over again.

Give me someone worth voting for. They are all too busy digging up or making up dirt on each other. They don't really care about the issues. Each is just trying to tell the voters what the voters want to hear. They don't really care. JMO.

...they are too busy trying to make the other "guy" look worse than they are.....so and so did this and that........but so and so did this.....but...but...he/she .....no he/she....blaa blaa blaah!

.....ok...Just had to get that out.

It's all about power. The minority leader in the Senate stated recently that the primary goal of the R party in the next 2 years is to make sure Obama is a one term POTUS. No mention of helping to get the country out of the ditch. Just bring down Obama so they can get the power back. Now that there's an R majority they plan to spend the next 2 years trying to impeach the Man. Just let the country go to heck while they waste time bickering. What's wrong with this picture?

Then, of course, there's the bizarre circumstance of the US oil embargo to Japan. Why? It should be obvious that Japan was NOT going to give up in China; an oil embargo would simply give the militant section of their government an excuse to attack Pacific islands with oil resources. Incidentally, in the Memo, it mentions sending a bunch of ships to the Orient. One excuse I've heard for this is that it was to protect US interests. Around this time period, "Orient" referred to the area of Japan, China, and Korea. Not exactly encompassing US Pacific interests, is it? Sounds more like provocation - "Let's send cruisers and subs sailing around just outside Japanese territorial waters!"

Okay, my question here is why don't you educate yourself on the candidates? It does not take long to find out what their platform is, a simple lookup of their websites is usually enough to form an opinion on way or another.

My experience in doing this is that the websites are usually seriously lacking in substance or difficult to navigate. They seem to start out wanting money and that immediately turns me off.

In the local elections this year information was lacking on the candidates. Vote for me because I'm the best for the job doesn't tell me anything.
