I was in Germany for 2 years. Every city I visited had remnants of a wall surrounding parts of their inner city. We were the ones that busted those walls down.

Yes the whole Iraq War version 2 really upset me too. Desert Storm at least had our interest in mind. Iraqi Freedom was a bridge too far. Way too many civilians either killed directly by our bombs or indirectly by us upsetting the political system. They were fine with that crazy Sadam guy in charge. We buy most of what comes in to this country from a country that has just as bad of a human rights record as Iraq had. Hard to say what's going to happen now.

I'm sorry Q. I know you're a very intelligent person. I'm sure you will go far in life. I sincerely hope you are able to develop some empathy in life. Try to be more like Mr Spock.

One of my Uncles landed on the beach in Normandy. He didn't talk much about it. He did tell my Brother it was a human stew and only by the grace of God he survived.

No. I admit that when I was in Germany I wasted a lot of great opportunities. I spent most of my spare time drinking. However I did do a little sightseeing and our guide told us that walls were very common in all the cities from many years ago when the people of the small city and surrounding farms had to protect themselves from marauders. Europe is a fantastic place to visit. I wish I had the money to go there now. When I was in Germany they still had the mark and you could get 4 marks for 1 dollar. That was very brief but the lowest the exchange rate got in the 2 years I was there was around 2.8 marks per dollar. Most of the officers above captain drove Porsches. The only bad part is that I had to be in the Army to be there. Those guys really earn their money. At least the enlisted guys do. The officers have a lot of responsibility but get a lot of perks in the form of not having to be grunts.

Tom Hanks movie has that scene at the beginning that really shows how hard it must have been. I here that a lot of the few vets that are left from WWII had a hard time dealing with that scene. I wonder if those guys knew how bad it was going to be when they had to get off those landing craft. These days the AF would flatten the beach first. Not to mention how much better the landing craft are. Still have to be brave to volunteer to go where you know you're going to come under fire.

I do feel fortunate I was too young for Nam, and too old for Iraq 1..
I do appreciate and respect all of you who serve or served.

Matter of fact.. I think we should have a 1 year mandatory military service between High School and Collage, for further maturation and decision on the best path in life for the young. (This is what Finland does.) Kids could could still choose if they want more civilan type duties during the service of course, but a service no less..

This is one thing I agree on, my father also said Movies never even came near .reality. Vey few time would he speak of the battles, I know his company was caught behind german lines, in the battle of the bulge, only 21 live thru it. He also would remember alot during his last few years, but sad thing he was reliving those days. He join b4 the US enter the war, and fought until German was defeated.

Also a comment on the US dropping the big one, yes it was the only way to get Japan, without killing 250,000+ America young.

Read about what the japaness did to the Koren people, they kill and rape over 200,000 people in a city after they surrender, just for their fun and games...

That's a great idea and it was floated by Obama too. One big benefit would be a public that isn't so gung ho about war. Germany and Italy do 2 years mandatory service.

Did you forget about the Draft b4 nam.........didn't stop that WAR.........ever man 18 year old had to list with the draft board, still have my draft card....yes we had to do Two years. Reason the 18 year old got the vote, so many had to go fight a war ,and couldn't even VOTE , NOW HOW CRAZY is that....Fastest Admendment ever past......

I voted... I have only missed a few times to vote since I turned 18. I was soooo excited my first time when I voted in Bush and we got rid of Clinton.... but I never did vote for Bush again! Arghhhh!
Any how. My poor husband didn't vote in the primary on the 2nd. I was invited to a republican party with my parents cause dad is a county commissioner. DH was late from work and I was late for the party so he didn't vote... I still feel bad cause his voting is more important than a party but.... oh well.
