For U.K. members, think again about using hardware cloth in coops.

First of all most burgulars will only sue if caught and then they get a free lawyer looking for work. Second is this happened in the U.K. and thankfully and hopefully we learned our lessons from the King George days about following in Englands' footsteps.

I think this is actually just another one of those junk "news" articles meant only to stir up the readership.

You'll be surprised at how many stupid cases make it to the courts. One story of a burglar falling through a skylight, landing in the kitchen on top of a knife block. He sued and won for injuries sustained AND LOSS OF EARNINGS!

It's just the way the UK law stands. If a burglar breaks into your house and trips on the stairs or stumbles over a rug, he can sue. That's the problem. He shouldn't have the right too. It's health and safety rules gone mad.

Fortunatly I left the UK and now live in a country where if someone breaks into my property, I can pretty much do whatever I want to protect myself and family. As long as I don't go overboard with it. No acid baths, or dismembering...shame really

A couple of disgruntaled "Ex pats" around here and US predjudice ? I realy must learn what I can say in response without upsetting the admins and get stuck in sometime........

I find it amazing that we seem to be the only nation ready to bend over and "Do ourselves" ... We have a rich history and some silly laws, but not as silly as in most nations and we the root to many other nations very existance. The "Rotten Boroughs" of Georgian England and the quircks of today hardly merit the regular "Slating" that the UK gets on this forum ....... I hope things improve or I will expect the same treatment for Slating other nations....
 
Well that is definately a law gone wrong situation. Feel empathetic for the victims of the crimes who are being shafted from both sides.

Criminals have gotten down right brazen these days, wow, they took that poor lady's whole shed?

I don't mean to be skeptical, but do you have an actual link to this case?

The story is in a movie script, but I've not been able to locate any factual basis for it.
