Well I hunted it down earlier and IF they prosecute you'll be fined, at most, $100.

It would cost more than that TO prosecute... and it doesn't mention what type of 'crime' it is... does it count as a felony, misd? Haven't dug that part up yet... and since my eyes are going buggy on the fine print I'ma take a break from typing up that mess and maybe google that.

They can say all they want about confidential this and everyone takes an oath that, but you know what? Presidents all take an oath too and I got just two words for you Watergate and Lewinsky. And THAT sums up my opinion on what a Government Employee Oath is worth.

N'mind the blatant security risk, TO ME AND MINE, by sending out that info...

Edit... Joe that isn't the ACS... that's the Census... which used to be ONE question... how many live there. That is the definition of a census... a great big counting of heads... this, this isn't a census... this is... a violation.

Edit again... some info on prosecution...

http://blog.heritage.org/2010/03/12/to-answer-or-not-to-answer-the-census-–-that-is-the-question/

Glad I don't live in Delaware...

edit... and another one, but this one is just a rant (I agree with) and has adult (IMHO appropriate) language
http://libertyscott.blogspot.com/2007/02/census-prosecution.html

And another... there was a case, got a block, but then the judge backed out... shocker when you consider who pays her salary.

Enumeration so you can determine the number of Reps does NOT include my marital status... seems plain ol' black and white to me... but I guess politicians and judges only see in gray.

Edit Again... One More Here... http://www.dailytribune.net/articles/2010/03/19/news/01.txt
This
was written Friday, March 19, 2010... so it actually has to do with THIS YEAR'S census...
One blurp, won't post the WHOLE thing as this ramble's long enough....

Census Bureau Public Affairs Specialist Samantha O'Neil told the Tribune. "We don't actually collect fines or attempt to enforce this law. There's no prosecution," O'Neil said. "This is not a method we use to get people to return the forms. We hope people will return them. For every one percent increase in the mail response rate, we save $85 million," she said.

You heard it folks... from the CB themselves... There's No Prosecution

So, they can kiss my toe.

There is a difference between the normal census form which I didn't find invasive and the ACS which I found very invasive.

If you get the ACS, Google (American Community Survey harassment) and find out your rights and how others have handled it . Read my post #48 for my earlier rant regarding it.

I recommend not filling out the ACS and making it difficult for the person who comes and tries to make you fill it out. Most likely you will be threatened with fines and in extreme cases jail time. You can refuse to answer every question. Some have had a lot of fun by making the ACS person write "Refused To Answer" on every question. I say find out what you're in for and push back on the ACS.

Sorry, I get riled by the government intrusions on my privacy.

I believe in and support our Constitution... and the Constitution includes a bit... ENUMERATION (head count by state) to determine the number of Representatives each state gets... THAT'S IT... so count me... my kids... hubby... even if the IRS, SS, etc already know we're here... and that's IT... the rest is just a warping of the Constitution that is WRONG.

How exactly is it warping the Constitution? Does the Census say it's Constitutionally mandated to fill out? Does the Constitution say they will NEVER ask you anything other than the number of people? I don't get it.

This happen to us too. Filled it out, then a month or two later we started getting knocks at the door. I told my wife not to answer any questions from anyone that comes to the door. We even got a request for more info in the mail from the Census, so I know they had gotten our first one, unless that was a scam too.

Counting heads For The Purpose Of Determining Rep #s IS Constitutional Law THAT is what the Census is supposed to be used for... PERIOD.

That is ALL that was in there... since then they've tweaked and snipped and whatnot so that they can harass you for information they've already got but are too lazy to collate.. files that are a heck of a lot more secure than my mailbox... if they would simply communicate between their own offices they'd have no need to harass people for all this.. .since they refuse to cooperate with one another they harass us.

But, besides me just not LIKING being harassed and threatened... My race, my income, etc shouldn't have ANY bearing on whether or not I get a State Rep or not... again Constitutionally, all equal, yada... that sort of info is NOT used to determine # of Reps therefor it is NOT part of the Enumeration outlined in the Constitution that citizens must participate in by law.

They are using That Law incorrectly (illegally?)... imagine if they used Freedom of the Press to try and say crushing someone to death is okay... a pressing... it's in the Constitution... by law I can dump a load of rocks on your head and you are BY LAW required to just stand there and be smushed... uh.. NOOOO that is NOT what it means... you'd be using the law wrong... probably a goofy example, but it's the first that came to mind.

I guess I'm still not seeing how it's unconstitutional, or even illegal. It's illegal to dump rocks on someone's head. That's called assault. I'm unaware of any law that says the Government can't require you to answer ten questions.
