Forceful census takers? Anyone else being bagered?

I filled it out with number of people and "American" for race. They can come if they want but no one has so far. I'll just get the dog. I sent it in and that's that - they'll get nothing else out of me. Said as much on the form and that I'd be more than happy to pay the $100 fine....so far not a peep.

NPR was talking about the Census this morning, interviewing some higher-up and taking calls. I was relieved to hear that combative attitudes like these are rare.

This isn't a job I'd ever want to do, I don't care how good the money is.

As for questions about race- it IS important for several reasons. If you don't understand that then....

Also- I believe I was able to put multi-racial for some of us. I didn't feel the form I got was intrusive at all.

Okay, so why is race important??

As a non-white person, I don't think I need any more or less government services than my white neighbors. People keep saying we need to get past racial divides... treat everybody equal... and yet it seems like every where, every day those same people keep putting labels on me and everyone else. You're right... I don't understand.

I understand though, they want to have a clearer picture of what political tactics will be most effective in a given area and they want to gain that knowledge by promising "free" stuff.​

I'm in the process of breaking it down and griping it point by point for MY records, but I'll start a new topic for that... it's LONG... and IMHO scary as all get out...

I love the one about How Many Times Have You Been Married... so it will be very obvious who is a single parent, out of wedlock, divorced, remarried, etc. I can think of many churches, and local gossips, who would love to have that info... but I fail to see what that has to do with budgetary concerns.... just for example... so far I haven't even managed to get all the Housing questions typed up... n'mind all the personal...

I sent mine in the day I got it. I answered a couple questions that while not too bad I would have rather not answered. I did my part so if any census workers come by I will politely tell them goodbye.
