Fostering Dog for A Friend in the Marines **Update Owner Now Home pg. 4

Quote:
Originally the plan was for her to drive up to Maine. Her kids were going to stay with her father who also lives up this way and the dog was coming to me. But the military upped the date of departure for training so the plans changed. So instead of leaving in July she leaves at the end of this month. That meant she needed a quick solution.

Ahh, I see. Yeah, the military is famous for doing that! Glad it all got worked out.

Slim is now in Maine

My friend's father drove down to NC and brought Slim back with him. They arrived at around 6 pm tonight and I picked him up at around 730. We made it home around 830. So far so good. Introductions with the other dogs and the two cats went well. Lots of sniffing and a bit of 'That's enough' growling when things got too personal. Since then a bit of wandering to check out the house. Hopefully everyone will sleep well tonight. Tomorrow will be the meet and greet with the horses and goats.

Well Slim is learning that birds are not toys. While cleaning out the brooder I had one escape. Slim decided to 'help'. Needless to say he found out really fast that picking up a five week old EE in his mouth is not acceptable. I also think the EE learned that getting out of the brooder is also not a great idea. Then we went to feed the ducks. I opened the cellar door (the fence is only a couple feet away) and Slim came almost face to face with one of my adult Muscovies. Slim took one look and decided that he was not going to help anymore.

Slim's owner, a SSgt with the Marines, made it home safely after a year long deployment. Now I need to get Slim from ME to NC to be reunited with his Mom and two boys. I've tried a couple of non-profits who do rescue transports but haven't had any luck. So I decided to update this thread to see if I could get a 'Get Slim Home' caravan organized. There is no rush since he has a home here as long as it takes but I know his other family would like him back with them sooner rather than later.
I believe I can get Slim rides from ME to PA but would love to hear suggestions on how to get him from PA to the Jacksonville, NC area. I suppose I could make him a sign and he could hitchhike the rest of the way but knowing Slim he might end up with the wrong crowd.

He is a neutered black lab mix, about 50 lbs. He is also a food stealing, cat chasing, duckling eating (oops) love bug and lap dog. Loves the car. He does hog the bed too.

check with Dogs on Deployment. They might be able to provide some help. They have a website and a facebook page to contact them.

They find foster homes to pets of soldiers who are being deployed. I'm sure that they have some transportation system in effect.

and thanks to Slim's owner for his service. My brother is deploying at the end of April.
