Why in the world was it in there at night? DO they have night vision? YIKES!

So i ran to the house, and woke up my husband to kill it. First wack, he knocked its tail off. Then it got out of the coop and my husband had to chase the darn thing. He killed it. Thank Goodness.

Heres a picture of his tail. Judging by the # of rattles... Do you think it was 7 years old??

I'm assuming you are referring to the Western Diamondback...they are primarily nocturnal hunting by smell and by using a heat-sensing pit organ located between the eye and the nostril on either side of the head. It just may have been passing through unless you have tiny chicks.

It is not uncommon for rattlesnakes to add 2-3 new segments to their rattles per year so this guy may be 7 years old or could be as young as 3 or 4 years old.

That's a freaky picture you got there, I'm glad your husband was able to dispatch it after removing the one way to locate it in the dark!
