gvill - I'm so glad you share our affection for Autumn. She is one cute chick!
She's out and about this morning, poking around as if nothing was wrong. Still somewhat concerned because I don't get the impression she's eating a lot - her poop has that bright green tinge which someone suggested is from lack of eating. Keeping a close eye on her.
Talked to the vet about hysterectomy and she said the reason she does not do them is because the birds don't tend to survive them due to the stress.
I'm not sure how they came to the diagnosis. I know they drained the yolk material from her. Maybe they diagnosed based on what came out?
With your hen could you feel something in her abdomen? When I feel around my hen there is nothing, I would think that I would be able to feel something, she is so thin there is nothing in the way!
I palpated her abdomen Friday evening when I noticed she was walking slowly and, seemingly uncomfortably. I didn't feel anything but I'm not sure you do with internal egglaying. I did get a slight impression that it was somewhat painful for her when I pressed against her abdomen, but it wasn't a big reaction, just kind of a sense that she didn't like it. I'm sure a more experienced chickenkeeper would have read the signals better.
