hi there.

i have five orpingtons, one lavender and four black, who are five weeks old.
any thoughts on their sex?

first is lucy. to me she is all girl, from her sweet temperament to her small black comb and wattles and fine little head and legs. such a darling, this one.

1.

1.

2. in high contrast - this is pippin. i've not been able to get a good picture of him, but he has a big red comb and wattles and looks just like a miniature rooster. very sweet tempered as a chick and very much in charge of the place. boy, right?

3. this is pepper. a little, pale yellow comb and tiny wattles. not as feathered in as lucy but we mix them up frequently just the same. quite shy and ready to come home from garden field trips first.

4. rosy - rosy rooster i expect, as this one looks pretty boyish to me with bigger comb & wattles, quite red, though it is quite easygoing and little, if noisier than lucy and pepper. not feathered out as much as pippin. what do you think?

5. i really wish that lavender were a pullet. with a pink comb, but decent wattles, i'm leaning toward cockerel...but oh, i'd love it if you said to wait and see!

let me know if you'd like me to take some more specific pictures.

thanks for your thoughts on this! anyone else want to take a guess?

i'll post a pic of the lavender in a week or so and see if things are any clearer.
