Fox trouble

I think he is saying the school won't allow the electric fence, not that he thinks it's a danger to the kids. I can understand the school. Parents will sue over any little thing these days. I am a parent of 4 small children myself, and I have seen how some parents react when their children get hurt. It's unreasonable, and I try not to be that way. I personally would be fine with an electric fence at my kids' school as long as it didn't border the playground of kids under age 6 (barring special needs), but I know MOST parents would not be ok with that at all. Not at all. They would throw a fit, that's what would happen. My kids' school also has chickens, but they close them up in a very secure coop every day at the end of the day. They only have 2, so they have one of those little cedar houses with a small run. They are allowed out during the day, but are closed up every afternoon after school. My 6yo son actually does it most days while I'm picking them up. Another parent added hardware cloth to the bottom of the run to make it more secure. They have seen a fox out there trying to get in, but he wasn't successful. I don't have any suggestions other than fencing for keeping the fox out of the tunnels if electric isn't an option. I wonder if electric would be ok if it was turned off every morning before they kids got there and turned back on at the end of the day? Especially if it were a lower voltage one, like the one I have for my portable electric fence, not the super shock one meant for cattle I have attached to my barn.

You right mama 24, parents would not like it at all. At the moment there has not been any more damage [hope i have not spoken to soon]. I have put some stakes in the ground and threaded nylon through them and made a fence. Hung old wrags and things that flap. Also digging mens hair lightly into soil around it as suggested. There is still evidence the fox is coming into the compound but no more damage and chickens and ducks seem to be fine. The fox has however left a small present of a pigeon in the middle of our parsnips. He obviously gets over the perimeter fence with ease. I have checked every inch and there are no holes or other places he can get in.

Sorry have not been on for a few days its GCSE time and students are taking up all of our time lol.

Thank you all and if anyone has any more ideas i would love to hear them.

NITE GUARD or NITE EYES - These devices work! I can't tell you why, it doesn't seem they would work, but the DO!
For instance, we have lost two, 4 bird flocks, one by one, to a fox - actually two foxes (I couldn't believe it when I saw TWO!). Always when they were free ranging (of course). So I decided to try something new. NITE GUARD is the one I have. It's a little black box with a blinking red light in the center. The red light makes predators think it's another predator and they stay away.??? Don't ask me why it works, it just DOES!
I bought two and mounted them diagonally on each opposite corner of the run/coop sometime in early fall. All fall and winter the little red light flashed and all winter long (in Maine here!) we never saw ONE foot print from ANY predators and best of all we haven't lost any since!
They suggest you buy four, of course, at around $20.00 each. I only bought two as I said, and mounted them at two opposite corners. Works for me, and others so I have read. Check it out on-line. So sorry to hear about your losses and good luck with your new babies! So cute~!

Are these red fox or grays?
They are red fox as far as i know. I see a couple in the early mornings when i feed all the animals before i start teaching. They don't come near when i'm there not like some i know that i have seen in car parks etc. They just stand and stare at me then run off. I have a pile of wood chippings near the farm area and had noticed a rather large hole that went deep into the chippings. Wondered if one was making a den so i filled it in.

HAHA, i just noticed where you are located, yes, they are reds. Where you live, you cant own firearms?

He's on school property. Discharging a firearm would likely land him in prison.
I know, i was asking if people are allowed to own firearms where he lives, i think i have heard that people cannot own any kind of firearm at all, which means there is no way to get rid of the problem. Life is a funny journey and it seems the entire human race has lost complete sense of itself, it just completely baffles me at the total lack of common sense nowadays...of course we only have ourselves to blame for our de-evolution!!!

There is a reason we are at the top of the food chain....lol...but in the disney world everyone lives in now...it seems it has been forgotten.
