I LOVE this story and the pictures...it made me laugh! It sounds like your girls are doing you a favor, you certainly can't beat the convenience of having the eggs already in the house. I definitely think a doggy/chicken door is in your future!

That's funny!
For a while I kept a couple of barn kittens in the coop/run with the chickens. They finally got big enough to live outside the coop so I let them start free ranging in the day (the kittens). One night I couldn't find Dodger. I searched the dark for an hour and no kitty. I was heartbroken, thinking the coyotes had gotten him. The next morning I went out to search again and all the chickens were agitated. I stopped and listened and heard a faint meowing. Dodger had climbed the tall tree next to the coop and couldn't figure out how to get down. He had been up there all night. I managed to climb up far enough to coax him back out. All in all he was scared, but fine. I went back in to get ready for work and left him happily scampering about the yard. About 15 minutes later I heard the chickens going crazy! Loud, screaming, squawking! I went running out and didn't see any predators in the yard or overhead. All of the chickens were crammed up in the front corner of the run and were clearly looking at something. I followed their line of sight to see Dodger climbing yet another tree. The chickens were clearly disturbed and were yelling at him to come down!! Once I coaxed him back down they all quit yelling. It was the funniest thing and confirmed that they really thought of the kittens as sadly misshapen chicks.

Another day -

Frack came in first with Bertha not too far behind. Bertha, being very noisy and obnoxious, convinced Frack into letting her go first, so Frack came out and waited for Bertha to finish.

Bertha left and Frack was finally able to lay in peace and quiet - almost - notice who's waiting at the front door. It's Shadow! She has never come inside before, but here she is patiently waiting. I don't think I'm going to let her in, though. Three house chickens at a time are plenty!

Today we have cooperation! You would think they would not have to both lay at exactly the same time! That's Frack in front and Ebony in the rear. They layed within minutes of each other and are now back outside. I expect Bertha to come in any time, although she didn't show yesterday, so she may have gone back to laying in the coop.

Here's Bertha - just minutes after I posted the picture of Frack and Ebony and let them out the door!

Frack has been doing this for months. She gives the egg song because she knows I will go into the kitchen and give her a reward. The other two head straight for the front door. Being that it's a glass door all the way to the floor, it is really funny watching them bang their goofy selves on the glass trying to walk through!

Today's gifts -
