First batch of Marans in the incubator! First offspring from my Foley pair. I think they are looking really good. Now on to my project birds. These are the birds that hatched out of the lavender Wyandotte (or self blue) eggs. If anyone is good with genetics I could use your help. Where is Sally Sunshine? Isn't she good at this stuff? The theory is that I should end up with partial laced birds from this pair (SLW x Lav) Lavender Wyandottes are made using Black Wyandottes. What I have so far is Silver Laced Columbian Wyandottes split for Lavender. One thing I'm confused about. If the Lav birds are hiding a black bird base then shouldn't the silver/gold gene be s+s+? and if that's the case shouldn't these chicks I hatched be sexlinked? Maybe these are both pullets? Shouldn't the pullets be silver and the cockerels be yellow or golden? Dad, Mom and firstborn SLW in the background. Two project birds in the foreground for comparison. Another comparison shot. Why does it seem like the SLW on the left has so many more feathers? Does the one on the right look like a cockerel? Maybe that's why the feathers are so different? Comparison. Comparison. Any feedback and smartazz comments are appreciated.

Beautiful birds!!!! I love the laced birds of any kind.

Thanks Ravyn. It turns out all of the offspring should be white (silver) since silver is dominant and the rooster is the silver carrier.
Silver rooster (SS) x gold hen (s+-) gives Ss+ (silver roosters) and S- (silver hens). So if I get a pair and breed them together I may endup with 25% gold.

I need to get down and see if they are much different. So far none of them have REALLY looked like a cockerel.

Stinkin cute! That's what it's all about.

Nice! Are you incubating them?

Likely as soon as I get the bator emptied

Beautiful birds, by the way! Best of luck on the project, and I wish I could help, but the genetics still warps my brain for some reason. I understand a few factors, but it still pizzes me off that chicken genetics are so complex!

Ravyn and Walnut are always the first ones I think of when I have those kinds of questions.

I still need to learn all the genetic parts of it....its terrible. I guess I will have more time to devote when Stella starts school in the fall. Speaking of school....I am off to the carpool lane...and getting off this computer!

Nice looking birds, but not as nice to my eye as the orginal.

Here is what I came up with:

http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.htm...:Co/Co,Ml:Ml/Ml,S:S/(S)&fgt=E:E/E,Lav:lav/lav

Change E locus to E/e+ only on the lavender hen, then hit calculate crossing. I'd call those black patterned silver incomplete laced pullets.
