Ain't that the truth!

I'm not predicting anything now, except at least one more night there.

Hang in there. so your not in the dark find out what his white blood cell count was when he went in . and what it is now . that will give you a ideal how he is doing . worries me how close he came to a more serious infection . another day or two and you would be dealing with a lot worse. So glad you got him in there .

So when is everybody setting next? I'm thinking of setting a batch this weekend :D

Setting a full load from the productive splash rooster tomorrow

Is there a doctor in the house. I think this little guy has injured his leg in the brooder some how. He's still eating and drink but drags this leg. I've seen him use it a little since I found him hurt. Help!

This is depressing. Oz sent me this picture last night, and you guys know what I do, so I was hoping someone here could help him. Thanks guys :thumbsup

Trying to rule out splay leg or slipped tendon, but those usually hatch that way and are noticeable within the first days. This guy is over a week old, right?

Let me find that leg issues link I like...

What's really depressing is that is one of Johnny's chicks. I told Oz the exact same thing you said, I've seen them hatch that way, but not happen at two weeks old. I'm hoping it's an injury and not genetic. If it's genetic, I'm really questioning Johnny's value as a breeder :(
Oz, if it doesn't make it, I'll give you one of the ones I'm keeping from the next batch. I don't guarantee chicks, but you're a Frawg ;)

Thanks WV. I got the 20 advance. It's a scratch and dent so we will see how it looks when it gets here. I can return it if I need to. $232 seemed like a good deal for a 20 Advance.

Sweet! $150 cheaper than new

:D

Oh K... another rough night for him!  Seems like when I leave, he's fine, then falls to pieces when I go home.  Night nurse literally saved his life last night.  I won't get into the whole ordeal, but he's better this morning.  Lost a lot of blood, so let's pray a transfusion won't be necessary!   The *%#^ nurse is back today (she was actually better toward me yesterday afternoon), so we'll see how this morning goes.  One day at a time.

Keep the fingers crossed, and the legs, and whatever else you can cross!    :fl
oh no :hugs

No worries. Thanks so much. The little ones going to be a life long resident here at The Oz house. I mentioned the alternative to my wife this morning and you would have thought she caught me cheating on her. I've got a vet that will tend to her, too.

Culling chicks is the worst part of breeding. I can understand wanting to keep it when it's one of the few you have, but when you have as many as I do, there's no time for special needs...
I hate it so bad that it happened to one of yours

Working with one like that actually makes it easier to "put it out of misery", if it comes to that, than just doing it without trying, in my opinion. Fixing it won't be easy, but it is possible, so if she tries, and still fails, at least she will know she did all she could. Best of luck!

I've met Mrs. Oz, and if that chick doesn't make it, it will be from natural causes...
I'm just sick about the whole thing. Sad about Oz getting a bad chick from me, and sick wondering if it's genetic
