French frogs

I've met Mrs. Oz, and if that chick doesn't make it, it will be from natural causes...
I'm just sick about the whole thing. Sad about Oz getting a bad chick from me, and sick wondering if it's genetic

Snap out of it!

You know it can be any number of things. Just have to hatch more and see how it goes. He knows that you didn't do it on purpose.

wouldn't something genetic, likely have show at hatch, or immediately after? not two weeks later?

Good morning everyone! We actually had a chick get a crooked beak at two weeks old. It was so sad. She/he was still full of life when my DH destroyed it. We wanted her to go out on top! She was almost half the size of the others. And all the soft meals were not enough! Her beak got so severe. She couldn't eat. And it was taking time away from me.

That's been our only experience with a baby chick so far. Except that we bought 5 "Americana" pullets from the feed store. Out of the 5 we had 2 cockerels, Crooked Beak, & 2 pullets. Which are wonderful EEs!!! But we didn't know like 1000s of countless others! Lol

Culling chicks is the worst part of breeding. I can understand wanting to keep it when it's one of the few you have, but when you have as many as I do, there's no time for special needs...
I hate it so bad that it happened to one of yours
That's where I'm at. I let them try to make it on their own. If they don't I send them on before they start to suffer. I totally respect those that do all they can though!

I had a crossed beak once too. It did ok for quite a while, but never made it past 4 months. It seemed to be making a living just fine and I came out one morning and it was gone. We made sure it could eat and drink all the time, but it wasn't enough.

I have not dealt with crooked beak.... yet.... It will probably happen some day. Sorry you had to go through it. But hey, its usually problems that bring people here (to BYC. Mine was a disastrous first attempt at incubating!), and now I can't imagine being without half of these crazy people!
