French frogs

I'm still a newbie, but don't these things just happen sometimes?
They do

Snap out of it!

You know it can be any number of things. Just have to hatch more and see how it goes. He knows that you didn't do it on purpose.

I'm not in a funk. I know Oz doesn't blame me, and we will be swapping chickens back and forth for years

I am concerned about Johnny, though
wouldn't something genetic, likely have show at hatch, or immediately after? not two weeks later?

That's exactly what I told Oz last night
SC: Lighten up.

We all know chit happens and there was probably nothing anyone could do to prevent it.

Now stop, or I'll have to give you a hug.
I'm really not down, and as far as the last part of your statement:

Good morning everyone! We actually had a chick get a crooked beak at two weeks old. It was so sad. She/he was still full of life when my DH destroyed it. We wanted her to go out on top! She was almost half the size of the others. And all the soft meals were not enough! Her beak got so severe. She couldn't eat. And it was taking time away from me.

That's been our only experience with a baby chick so far. Except that we bought 5 "Americana" pullets from the feed store. Out of the 5 we had 2 cockerels, Crooked Beak, & 2 pullets. Which are wonderful EEs!!! But we didn't know like 1000s of countless others! Lol
Culling chicks is tough, but if you hatch enough, it will happen

I have not dealt with crooked beak.... yet....  It will probably happen some day.  Sorry you had to go through it.  But hey, its usually problems that bring people here (to BYC.  Mine was a disastrous first attempt at incubating!), and now I can't imagine being without half of these crazy people!

I have a feeling you would be truly missed!

Oh K... another rough night for him!  Seems like when I leave, he's fine, then falls to pieces when I go home.  Night nurse literally saved his life last night.  I won't get into the whole ordeal, but he's better this morning.  Lost a lot of blood, so let's pray a transfusion won't be necessary!   The *%#^ nurse is back today (she was actually better toward me yesterday afternoon), so we'll see how this morning goes.  One day at a time.

Keep the fingers crossed, and the legs, and whatever else you can cross!    :fl

So sorry, hon!! Hope he recovers quick!

About the same. It's strong, gets around, feeds well. Our friends here linked me to a good site on treating slipped tendons and were following those prescriptions. Thanks for all the help and concern.

Hope it pulls through... :fl

I've met Mrs. Oz, and if that chick doesn't make it, it will be from natural causes...
I'm just sick about the whole thing. Sad about Oz getting a bad chick from me, and sick wondering if it's genetic

Snap outta it, man!!

Chit happens... some things you can't control... now pick up some Red Cell for your flock and carry on...

That's where I'm at. I let them try to make it on their own. If they don't I send them on before they start to suffer. I totally respect those that do all they can though!

I had a crossed beak once too. It did ok for quite a while, but never made it past 4 months. It seemed to be making a living just fine and I came out one morning and it was gone. We made sure it could eat and drink all the time, but it wasn't enough.
Once you start breeding full time, that's an easier decision. Only the strong survive

Not always. Look at chicks that get crooked beak? That crops up around 2 weeks.
I just posted a out him/ her
I've only had it twice, both from my Polish, and they both hatched that way. That's an immediate cull for me

So sorry, hon!! Hope he recovers quick!
