From forest to garden

As we continue to turn this piece of woods into a homestead One of our first steps was to clear land for a garden. Phase one was to clear a quarter acre of maple and ash for a garden space.

Because we heat with wood, All those trees will become fuel.

After the trees and stumps and boulders were cleared we discovered nothing but rocks and heavy clay. We changed plans and opted for a raised bed garden. But the Deer, So many deer. That meant an 8 foot tall fence.

I hope you have plans to build a decked wood shed of some type....
The wood will last a very long time if it is off the ground and protected from the elements

Because I am a bowhunter, I also take some deer. Its like having a meat department and a produce section right in our back yard. We combine the two and can them together.

now in 2024, we will be expanding our garden space and production. I will be making more raised beds after I finish the chicken coop.
