Angus is having a day or 2 of no bandage and I put out the pools again. It is just so hot and everyone is miserable out there. The chicks had about an hour and a half in the mini coop this morning, they are happy to be back in their brooder. I think tomorrow I'll give them a bit more time while I do some yard work. Today is day 3 for the eggs so I'm going to candle them tonight and see how they're doing.

The garden, yeesh. The smaller oleanders are struggling a bit in the heat, I'm not too sure about 2 of the plumbago and one of the elephant ears might not make it. A few of the succulents have died and I'm watering quite a few things every other day. I'm about half way done with spreading hay in the yard. I've tested the ground with my own bare feet and the hay makes a significant difference in comfort. The chickens very much enjoy scratching around in it that's for sure!

Glad to hear Angus is doing so well IM! Your poor garden, it's amazing anything is still alive with the heat you've been having.

I know what you mean on the hot and miserable out there. I've been taking ice out there for mine to help them along. I get the weekend off from taking care of the animal's next door. He got the weekend off from his job down there on the border, so I'm relieved from that until Monday morning again. That will give me time to clean out those feather's in my coop and run a bit? It look's like they are having a pillow fight in there. They didn't start molting until the end of August last year.

My girls starting molting a week or two ago. Seems earlier than usual to me too but apparently the time is right for them.

That's nice you'll get a break from taking care of the neighbor's animals!

I'm going to get a block of ice to put in one of the pools tonight, should hold through most of tomorrow.

Thanks NFC. Angus still has a bit of a limp but I think he needs a break from the wraps and treatment. Standing in the water will soften up his skin too which will help.

I'm truly amazed that anything is still alive too. Some things are thriving despite the heat though. Even the sage and pride of barbados and they got hit with really high temps not long after I transplanted them. Mulching with a thick layer of hay has really helped.

Hay does make a good insulator. I went through a few bales of it this past winter when the shoveling got too hard. They got extra in their coop to block wind getting in any cracks and I was putting it on top of the snow so the girls could get out and walk on it.

Hey, when are you moving? Will you get as much snow at the new place? I suppose there's less risk of being snowed in because you'll be in a town?

I wish I knew when I was moving DH is making progress but because of his job, it's very slow going. Right now the "has to do" is down to putting a new subfloor in the bathroom, installing the new tub and putting the tile surround up the bathroom walls. Everything else (painting, trim work, new interior doors and such) can be done while I live there. He keeps saying October and I keep saying September.
