Fugly Farm

The way I cook winter squash is to cut them in half, take out the seeds and then place the pieces in a baking dish cut side down. Add a little water and cover with foil. Bake them in the oven until fork-soft. Then scoop out the soft flesh (doesn't that sound gross?) and mash it with butter, s&p like mashed potatoes. Or just leave the soft flesh (ugh, gross again) in the skin and add a pat of butter and s&p. Pretty simple but that's how we like it.
I’ve never found a recipe that says add a little water and cover with foil. I’m going to try it this way, thanks so much!! :hugs

This is the purple lantana. I need to put the little fence around this bed and add some straw for mulch. I don’t want the ducks in here for a while. In the second pic the flowers ahrub on the left of the lantana blooms yellow and the one on the right blooms orangish red. The walkway around the shade garden gets shade in the late afternoon so I put a pool there. We’ll see if they use it. I’m betting they will.

The water and the foil cover kind of steams the squash.

I forgot to tell you, some people like to sprinkle brown sugar on their winter squash. I didn't tell you because I think that's kind of :sick but you have that option.

IM, love seeing all the pictures, thanks for sharing them! I really like how you've put the flower pots in stands by the duck housing, really adds a nice touch of color.

And your ducks, they make me smile. It looks like they're standing around gossiping with each other.

You were wondering about your garlic, have you figured out if something is happening with it?

Yeah, that’s ok I’m not a fan of that either although Igor likes it. I can’t stand it when people put marshmallows on yams either!

Thanks NFC :) That yard is difficult because it gets some brutal sun on summer afternoons so I think annuals will be the way to go in there. I have a rosemary plant in there too.

The white girls were doing exactly that! They make me smile too, sometimes I miss having chickens though. Not when I was trying to keep them out of something, but they are fun too. I think chickens are more curious than ducks and ducks are more cautious than chickens when it comes to changes in their environment.

I haven’t pulled any garlic yet, it’s getting warm outside and I’m still sensitive to that it seems, likely because I’m afraid to feel like I did last weekend. I’ll get out there this evening and pull one when I’m changing duck water and a few more straightening up type things.
