Can you take them inside? My heart is hurting for the littles. I hate raising chicks without mama hens.
It is warm enough for them outside during the day, so I don’t know what bringing them inside would do? I mean yeah, at night it would be warmer, but if they don’t eat and drink then what’s the point? I have never had chicks who were this…dumb, and I’m frustrated with it all at this point.

What a stressful situation IM. I've never experienced that so don't have practical suggestions to make. I'm sorry this isn't going smoother! :hugs

I guess it's shipping stress? I hope they are OK this morning. I hope the rest make it, IM. Good luck.

It could be. I spent some time out there yesterday holding them in my hands all snuggled up, but I don’t want them to think I’m mommy. It may be too late for that already though. I can’t get out of their coop without them following me out.

Thanks Debby. Sad day, they’re all dead. This is the Universe telling me it wasn’t meant to be. I’m going to let the B hatch 3 blue eggs and we’re done. So disappointed.

When the chicks got here I kept them in the house while we finished prepping the little coop. I put a heating pad over the box and they got food and nutridrench. When the heat plate was warm I moved them outside to their nest with food and water right outside.

We tried several times during the day to get them to eat and drink yesterday, but they wouldn’t. I used a dropper to give them nutridrench again a few times, and held them in my hands to snuggle a bit, but it wasn’t enough.

I tried giving them to the B last night and went to check on them about half an hour later and they were out from under her and huddled in a corner of the box. So I put them back under the brooder plate, which is where I found them this morning. What a waste. I’m pretty sure they starved to death with everything they needed right there. Either they got too cold on their trip here, or they had too much stress from shipping, or both.

I'm so sorry IM.

Thanks Janie. I’m sad, but it happens. I’ve never had chicks shipped before. When I got ducks the first and third shipment did fantastic, super robust and hearty. The second shipment was an epic fail like this one so I knew the risks.

Poor babies, you're right...it does happen :hugs
