The ones in our area are kinda dangerous though. It's not them per se, but the fleas they have can carry the bubonic plauge. That's enough to keep me from wanting to attempt to tame one

I'm not very well versed on Bubonic plague. Thought that was over in the 1500's

So far the colony in my area has always tested negative. They come out every spring and check them. If they ever test positive they will kill the colony off. But it wouldn't be long before they'd be back. They're very persistent little critters.

Yes, they can infest dogs, cats, sheep and other livestock. I'm not sure about chickens
A few years back a little girl in the town next to me got sick and passed away from it.
