This butchering experience was pretty smooth. Igor cut off the head, the scalding water was ready and I learned that having running water to get the down and small feathers off your gloves or hands is helpful. Igor had better luck finding the crop today but since we butcher at first light they're usually empty. Cooking the neck and giblets for the pups, the carcass will rest until tomorrow.

How many hen's do you have there now, 6? I have cut mine back to 3 layers right now for my re-vamping. I have a pullet that should start laying soon though. I will be adding a few new hen's soon. I will also be ordering some NN chick's through my feed store for some new blood and color.

7 pullets outside. 3 black, one of which is from Fugly, 2 buff/white, 1 blue and 1 red. I think that lone chick I got from you might be a pullet based on feathering, the tail is pretty long for a boy.

Well, when I order those new NN chick's, I will be getting some males and females, so I am sure that I will have an extra boy or so, after I pick out the one that I will keep. I just want some that are totally not closely related to my current one's. As far as the hen's that I want to add goes, I'm looking for some cool feather patterns or eye candy.

That's what I need is a boy unrelated. Where are you ordering chicks from?

Through my feed store over here. They get their chick's through Privettes.

Cool. You can order through TSC apparently and they get theirs from Hoover's. I'm in wait and see mode right now. Are you keeping a second rooster?

I'm going to register to sell my eggs as nest run though. I think $3 a dozen, $4 if they don't bring back the carton, is good. I'm not giving them away, I'll freeze them first.

I froze some egg's before the older girls started molting. As far as the keeping of rooster's, I'll have to wait and see how they are. My neighbor just gave me a bunch of egg carton's that a co-worker of her hubby's gave them. She gave me 1/2 of them. I still had plenty already.
