Doggie update: we were at the park over the weekend. A guy showed up with an English bulldog/Pit mix. She has the cutest face and was really sweet! Another person showed up with what looked like a golden mix, also female. The golden had another dog by the throat within a few seconds of entering the park. The owner didn't leave despite that.

Fast forward half an hour. We had been talking with the owners of the bully and our dogs were playing, separately chasing balls with no issues as the humans chatted. Out of nowhere that golden mix attacked the little English bulldog. Frank defended her and had that golden by the side of the face in 2 seconds. The golden let go of the bulldog and, fortunately, Frank eventually let go of the golden. Afterward he was licking the bulldog on the face where she had a little owie.
Frank the Enforcer has earned his title.

Good for Frank! Hope the bulldog was ok. Did the golden's owner say anything to anyone?

Flock update: this is the view from my office window. Better in person but you get the idea (I'm seriously thinking of some clumping bamboo along that wall).

That particular feeder is very popular with the flock. I've seen pigeons eating the liitle bit that spills, but they can't eat directly from the feeder. Last night there were 2 of the youngsters eating from it at the same time.

I have 3 white pullet eggs from the Dorking over the last 5 days so she's getting into her groove. She's quick, in the nest to lay and out ASAP, maybe because she's a newbie and the older girls are mean. She has been hanging out with the younger crew quite a bit and only hangs with the bigs once in a while now. I plan to observe how she behaves with the young roo. So far she won't squat for any man, no matter how handsome he may be. The way to her heart is definitely through food. I've only seen half hearted attempts by Jr to mate with her, although he's quite dedicated to his Nn ladies.

Speaking of Jr, I always have a few bugs in my pocket, I drop a few treats for him so he can call the ladies, then we go on our way to get chores done. He follows me all over and reminds me every day of Fugly.

The little roo is definitely subordinate to the other boys his age. He shows interest in the Dorking girl though and has made a few attempts to mate. The 2 dominant boys in that group will definitely go in the freezer this weekend. Once we're down to 2 roos I can start working on my relationship with him a bit.

Based on the fact that Jr is tolerant of the other boys roosting in the big coop so far, I'm going to experiment. After the 2 dominant boys are gone I'm going to leave the pop door open on the mini coop during the day and see what happens. If forcing change is necessary I'll do it, if not then that's fine. I'm going to try letting them decide where they roost.

Very rude. You don't run into that much at the dog park, do you? Glad the bulldog was ok.
We pretty much stick to ourselves and keep the dogs busy so not too often. They interact a little bit with other dogs but we keep it limited. Don't want Frankie to get in trouble and it would be him just because he's a male bully.

That's true. It's obvious the dog isn't socialized in that type of situation often, and she paid no attention to it at all.

That sort of situation can make it bad for everyone, dogs and people alike. Does she go to the park often? I think I'd have to leave the next time she shows up.

They didn't look familiar and based on the dogs lack of social etiquette I would say no, they don't visit often. I don't see it as a dog problem, I see it as an owner problem.

We do see lots of people with new dogs who have no clue what they're doing. That dog that attacked Frank and left a scratch across his eyebrow has an owner like that. We saw them a few weeks later and he had started training his dog with someone who knows what they're doing.
