First day of the heat and we already have a power outage 🙄
Ours has been going off several times a day. It only stays off for seconds but that's long enough to make us have to reset the refrigerator and the wifi modem.
They are replacing the electrical poles in this area. I hope thats what is causing it.

Whoa, hope that's not an omen of things to come. How hot did you get down there today?
We got to 95 yesterday. Peak heat is around 1600 and that’s around when it went out. Thankful that it didn’t last very long.

How annoying, I hope that’s the cause too!

Vegetable stock from some stuff in the freezer and whatever was in the vegetable drawer than needed using before it went bad. Going to can this today but man does it smell good! The only seasoning is a couple of bay leaves, no salt as I prefer to do that at the table.

This made four quarts of stock. I love veggie scraps! All the cooked vegetables can go into the compost because there’s no fat or salt.

Got the pile of trimmings moved to the area I let that junk break down in, way out in a corner of the yard I don’t visit. The ducks aren’t happy, they were laying eggs under them :gigPowder wants to be broody so I’m keeping a close eye on the nests to make sure eggs are picked up a few times a day. Attila was obstinate but a couple days in the shade garden and cool nights on the roost took care of it. That garden definitely comes in handy, I’m glad I split it up like I did. Also finished filling the first compost bin I made so tomorrow I’ll be putting some weed cloth around the second wire cage and moving that from one bin to the other and I have stuff to start the next pile waiting. Then we moved some blocks to build a sort of permanent base for the solar cookers out back, just need to watch the shade to make sure it’s in full sun in the afternoons now. I had this platform out front so I could cook on it year round, but we use the heat from cooking inside to also warm the house in winter. Plus it’s kinda weird when people show up and your food is out there cooking.

Your vegetable stock looks good, and such a pretty color.

This is just me,,,, :old
I would have canned all ingredients, veggies and all. Then use individual jars as a soup starter base. :frow
But,,, I understand you wanted to make Veggie stock for your cooking needs. :highfive:
Those cooked veggies could also be consumed by your chickens instead of compost.
I give veggie scraps, finely chopped to my chickens whenever available. Also fruit,,,,,, EXCEPTH CITRUS.:old

I have high blood pressure so using vegetable stock that I can myself with no salt is for my health. I use it in a lot of stuff and will often drink it when I’m sick. I have meals in jars, but they are a smaller part of my pantry because ingredients give me more versatility. Plus, I can use the canned broth when canning other things.

I would have given the veggies to the crew, I often do, but there are a LOT of onions in it this time so decided to toss in the compost instead. They got the leaves off the heads of broccoli I harvested today and some peas 😊
